Als Subsidie Adviseur Overheidsprogramma’s ondersteun je de organisatie in het identificeren en verzilveren van subsidiekansen. Je helpt collega’s met het vergroten van hun kans op financiering en werkt daarvoor nauw samen met Marketing Managers en betrokken Business Managers. Je speurt subsidieprogramma’s af naar kansen, analyseert beleidsontwikkelingen en voorziet in relevante marketintel. Je bent verantwoordelijk voor een goede interne coördinatie van en informatiedeling over Europese (werk)programma’s en nationale fondsen en je zorgt ervoor dat NLR input levert voor programma’s. Je houdt overzicht van lopende calls en voorstellen. Vragen m.b.t. subsidie-advies weet jij te beantwoorden. Voorstellen worden door jou gereviewd op de kernpunten en je adviseert over verbeteringen. Je draagt zorg voor een goede interne afstemming tussen collega’s die actief zijn in diverse Europese werkgroepen. Je brengt de meerjarenplanning van Europese en nationale calls in kaart. Je vertegenwoordigt NLR in enkele nationale en Europese gremia. Daarnaast biedt de functie ruimte voor het verkennen van nieuwe kansen.

The Civil Society Forum is a network of non-governmental organisations working across Wider Europe. Our vision is to build a civil society beyond borders across the entire continent. As Executive Director, you will be responsible for the implementation of the Civil Society Forum’s strategy, plans and projects, as well as overall day-to-day management, development and representation.

Job Description/ Main Functions:

The general duties of your job will include, but are not limited to:

  • Formal representation on behalf of the CSF, including entering into contracts, including contracts of employment.
  • Implementation of the CSF strategy for the years 2025-2030 and organising further strategic planning.
  • Implementation of the Board’s decisions, projects and contractual commitments of the Forum.
  • Ensuring CSF’s financial and structural sustainability.
  • Oversight of the Forum’s planning and budgeting cycle.
  • Shaping the CSF activity profile and leading the further development of CSF and its public visibility.
  • Representing the Forum in all aspects of its operational and external activities (e.g. with the Board, members, partners, donors and the public).
  • Leading the Secretariat of the Forum, including oversight, coordination and staff development.
  • Following general developments in areas relevant to the CSF, civil society, the public and policy etc. 

Requirements/Job Qualification:

  • At least 7 years of proven experience in the field of public administration and management (experience in an international NGO is an asset).
  • Significant experience in implementing large projects / managing contracts, including substantial experience with European Union funds and an excellent fundraising record.
  • Excellent knowledge of the European political and civil society context, a wide network of contacts in the European capitals and experience with advocacy activities.
  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, democratic style of leadership, strong communication, administrative, crisis management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strategic and positive mindset, ability to design, operationalise and follow through processes, and innovative capacities, all while working with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing and speaking in English and Russian. Ideally a native level of English and a good command of German too. Other European languages are also an asset.
  • A valid work permit for Germany is strongly desired for applying.

Als Manager European Affairs ben jij verantwoordelijk voor de EU-strategie vanuit het NLR. Je voert de NLR-lobby aan voor Europese kaderprogramma’s en voor nationale en regionale subsidieregelingen. Zorgt daarnaast voor een goede strategische positionering van het NLR en de Nederlandse luchtvaartcluster. 

Je vergaart en analyseert de benodigde marketingintel. Agendeert topics voor komende programma’s. Initieert samenwerking met Nederlandse en Europese partijen. Je bent graag op de hoogte van de technologische ontwikkelingen bij strategische partners op Europees niveau en vertaalt ontwikkelingen naar belangen en kansen voor het NLR. 

Als Manager European Affairs vertegenwoordig je het NLR in diverse nationale en Europese gremia. Je beheert het netwerk van Europese kennisinstellingen en bouwt samenwerking met Erea-leden uit. Deze samenwerkingen in gesubsidieerde programma’s weet je door te vertalen naar industriële producten en opdrachten.

Comms and Advocacy Assistant

As part of our continuous growth, we are seeking to employ an enthusiastic and motivated Communications and Advocacy Assistant to support the ongoing outreach actions of the organization on a full-time basis. You will be a part of the communication and the policy teams and liaise closely with the technical team.

Tasks & Responsibilities

The candidate will assist the EBA team on the implementation of EBA’s outreach strategy. His/her main responsibilities will be:

  • Coordination and implementation of EBA webinars, as well as in-person workshops and meetings;
  • Execution of EBA communication and dissemination activities related to EU projects;
  • Performance of advocacy tasks as part of the policy team;
  • Support to the organisation of the European Biomethane Week 2024 to be held on 23-24 October in Brussels (EBA’s flagship annual event with at least 500 expected attendees) when needed.

Profile

  • Degree in Marketing Communications or European Affairs;
  • Proven experience on the organisation of webinars, events and meetings;
  • IT-savvy with knowledge of Office 365, Zoom, CMS and marketing tools will be highly desired;
  • Ability to produce content tailored to different audiences (e.g. members, decision-makers, partners, external providers);
  • Keen interest in European Affairs, renewable energy, climate mitigation and adaptation, and circular economy;

ABOUT THIS POSITION

You want to help create positive social and environmental impact in global supply chains as well as on the livelihoods of smallholders, artisans, and workers worldwide? We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced new team member to fil the current vacant position of a Project Coordinator. We are looking for someone who is excited to learn and brings in ideas for moving the debate for fair and sustainable development forward; and of course we are looking for someone nice to work with!

The FTAO is a small team that aims to have impact on EU policies through cooperation in larger networks. We are therefore looking for someone who excels at coordinating a rich network of collaborators that include members of the Fair Trade Movement, other civil society organizations, trade unions, academics and private sector actors among others. As a member of a small team, you will be working on different issues simultaneously and carry out a wide diversity of tasks. You will be working in close contact with the rest of FTAO’s staff members working on EU policies and under the coordination of our Managing Director.

KEY AREAS OF WORK

  • Implementation of the EU Regulation on deforestation-free products. This includes developing capacity building tools to increase readiness of cooperatives and local actors, facilitating engagement of producer networks and national Fair Trade platforms with relevant stakeholders (e.g., EU Delegations), developing expertise on needed accompanying measures and sectorial guidance, as we as the involvement in and dissemination of relevant in-house studies to EU policymakers.
  • Human Rights and environmental due diligence, including the transposition and implementation of the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. This includes developing and implementing an advocacy strategy that utilizes the resources of national Fair Trade organizations. This shall involve coordination of advocacy actions at national level as well as continues engagement with EU policy makers, other CSOs and networks. Specifically for the development of accompanying measures.

The FTAO is looking for a policy and project coordinator who is ready to grow together with the organization: analyse new challenges and opportunities depending on the political context and funding opportunities, and design and implement advocacy strategies in various policy fields.  The areas of work in which you will assume the leadership of our team in the short term are listed below. But we stress that this position fits a generalist profile who would be excited to grow in other areas in the coming years.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate FTAO’s advocacy work on the key areas of work. Create and implement advocacy strategies that involve the Fair Trade movement and external partners. 
  • Draft position papers, articles and press releases, in coordination with colleague responsible for communications, write internal reports and analysis.   
  • Participate in research projects, and commission and oversee research carried out by consultants, interns and volunteers. 
  • Engage with policy makers alone or within coalitions.
  • Represent the FTAO in various fora – e.g., internal coordination working groups, CSOs coalitions, multi-stakeholder spaces.

Project management

  • Manage and report on grants, in accordance with donor requirements, supported by our financial officer.
  • Support to FTAO’s fundraising work by identifying external funding opportunities and put together funding proposals.
  • Maintain good donor relationships. 

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Essential 

  • Educated to bachelors’ level in a relevant field (e.g., Political Science, Economics, Law or International Development).
  • Knowledge of Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence, ideally of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
  • Knowledge of the EU Deforestation free supply chain Regulation. 
  • At least 2 years of working experience under a regular working contract (ie. in addition to internships) relevant to the thematic areas of work (4 years for the senior project coordinator position).
  • Good understanding of EU policy-making and influencing processes and strategies. 
  • Proven EU advocacy skills - ability to identify opportunities, develop and implement persuasive and result-oriented strategies and content, adapted to end receiver.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge and use of English (written and oral).
  • Excellent networking and communications skills and ability to maintain and build strong working relations with key policy makers.
  • Able to work in a small team and independently with people from different cultural backgrounds, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility, ability to work under pressure, improvise and multi-task.
  • IT skills at user level (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Right to work and live in Belgium.

Desirable

  • Prior knowledge and experience in one or several of following policy areas: Fair Trade, international trade, sustainable development, development policies, environmental protection, sustainable agri-food supply chains (e.g., cocoa/coffee), deforestation.
  • Working experience in development policy design and/or implementation.
  • Master’s degree in one of the above-mentioned academics fields.
  • Experience of managing grants (e.g., EC grants) – contractual and reporting requirements.
  • Proven record of fundraising abilities.
  • Experience in working with external consultants and academics.
  • Fluency in spoken and written French or Spanish.

Senior Policy Officer

The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for supporting collaboration among Science Europe Member Organisations, for developing advocacy strategies on key issues for scientific research in Europe. To do so, the post holder works closely with experts from the Member Organisations, with the rest of the Science Europe Office and with relevant external partners.

Science Europe is a membership association of 40 major public European Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) and Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) from 29 countries. The Position

Reporting to the Secretary General, the holder of this position will assume responsibilities in the framework of one of the main priorities of Science Europe, namely strengthening the role and contribution of science in tackling societal challenges. This is based on Science Europe’s convening role amongst national research performing organisations (RPOs) and research funding organisations (RFOs).

Working with Science Europe RPOs and RFOs, the post holder will look at: i) ways to enhance the transmission of scientific knowledge to policy making, ii) how to develop institutional policies to make research activity more sustainable environmentally, ii) foster dialogue between researchers, policy makers, and stakeholder organisations. The challenges associated to the green and digital transitions and sustainability of research will be a main focus area.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Secretary General liaison between the General Assembly, the Governing Board and the Office (contributing to prepare relevant documents and assisting the implementation of activities and projects);
  • Contributes to the strategic development of the organisation by ensuring that Annual Workplans are in line with the Science Europe Strategy Plan and the Multi-annual Action Plan.
  • Coordinates all activities in the topic areas of responsibility, and collaborates with other Office staff to contribute to the overall realisation of the objectives of the organisation. This include the organisation of events, drafting publications, policy positions and other activities related to Science Europe’s work.
  • Implements activity with relevant Working Groups and Task Forces as necessary.
  • Drafts and/or contributes to the development of policy documents and communications materials (expert reports, internal briefings, public policy statements, press releases, articles, newsletters, social media, etc.), as determined by Science Europe’s activities and outputs.
  • Keeps abreast of the developments in the above areas in Europe and globally (to identify trends, needs, and assess complementary or competitor organisations), and proposes relevant actions;
  • Maintains and develops relations with existing members, and with possible new ones;
  • Monitors Member Organisation engagement in the above-mentioned areas and develops actions to maintain/improve participation and increase value to membership.
  • Contributes to the Strategy monitoring system in coordination with other staff.

Credentials:

We are looking for a candidate who has

  • educated to at least Masters degree, a PhD degree desirable but not necessary
  • 6-8 years of relevant work experience, in the area of research policy or research administration;
  • previous experience working in and/or a solid understanding of an international membership organisation or association;
  • sound background working in and/or a good understanding of the mechanisms of publicly funded scientific national and EU research systems;
  • sound background experience in and/or an understanding of EU public, legislative and regulatory affairs, including experience in advocacy and  dealing with the European institutions;
  • experience in working in thematic areas directly relevant to the position including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Climate change, green and digital transition, societal impact of research.
  • in-depth knowledge of the policy-making processes at the European level;
  • proven ability in project and event management;
  • experience working in close contact with senior academics and policy makers, in an international context; and,
  • advanced writing and editing skills in English, and capacity to write articles, reports and policy papers for different audiences.

 And the following key skills and competences:

  • strong analytical thinking and policy awareness with the ability to interpret and explain policy developments;
  • service-oriented and demonstrate concern for meeting the needs of Member Organisations;
  • proven capacity to deal with stakeholders and broker common positions;
  • excellent verbal and written communication in English;

  • pro-active, flexible and ‘hands on’ approach to work;

What we Offer

A 3-year full-time contract as well as a competitive salary with the possibility to become permanent at the end of that period. The salary offered will depend on level and number of years of relevant experience. We also offer benefits such as ‘chèques repas’ (meal vouchers), 13th month (additional salary payment in December), medical and hospital insurance, pension plan insurance.

Temporary Vacancy – Policy Officer EU Framework Programmes for R&I, Cross-Border and International Research Collaboration

The Policy Officer –EU Framework Programmes on R&I, Cross Border and International Research Collaboration is responsible for supporting cooperation among Science Europe Member Organisations and for supporting advocacy strategies on key issues for scientific research in Europe. To do so, the post holder works closely with experts from the Member Organisations, Science Europe Office staff and with relevant external organisations.

Science Europe is a membership association of 40 major public European Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) and Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) from 29 countries. Based in Brussels, we promote the collective interests of our Member Organisations through our advocacy work and support them in their efforts to foster excellent European research and innovation by offering a platform for collaboration. We contribute to the development of research policies to the European Research Area and globally through dialogue with Member Organisations and engagement with external partners.

The Position

Reporting to the Secretary General the position holder will assume responsibilities on the EU Framework Programme on R&I, and on Cross Border and International Research Collaboration, in line with Science Europe Strategy Plan.

Working with Science Europe RPOs and RFOs, the post holder will:

i) Follow the developments on EU Framework Programme for R&I and inform Member Organisations;

ii) advocate for investments in R&I, better cooperation between national and European actors in collaborative initiatives such as Partnerships, and other relevant developments identified by Science Europe;

iii) Promote actions in support of widening participation and fostering brain circulation;

iv) Promoting international research collaboration beyond Europe through bodies such as the Global Research Council or through Science Europe policy initiatives (for instance, dialogue on collaboration with China).

To achieve these, the post holder will develop and maintain relationships with officials from European Institutions and global R&I organisations.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all Science Europe activities related to the EU Framework Programme on R&I, and Cross Border and International Research Collaboration;
  • Supports the Secretary General liaison between the General Assembly, the Governing Board and the Office, contributing to prepare relevant documents and assisting the implementation of activities and projects in line with the SE Strategy Plan;
  •  Maintains and develops relationships with Member Organisations, including collecting and discussing existing initiatives in the areas of responsibility.Supports cooperation between Member Organisations and implements activities with relevant Working Groups and Task Forces as necessary.
  • Develops advocacy messages, campaigns and long-term agendas in the areas of responsibility
  • Coordinates all activities in the topic areas of responsibility, including the organisation of events and meetings.
  • Develops partnerships with external organisations in Europe and globally as necessary, keeping abreast of the developments in the areas described above;
  • Drafts or contributes to draft briefings and reports, policy documents, and other communication materials such as press releases, press articles, communication campaigns, newsletters, social media, etc., as determined by Science Europe’s activity.
  • Collaborates with other Office staff to contribute to the overall realisation of the objectives of the organisation.

  • in-depth knowledge of the policy-making processes at the European level;

  • experience working with academics and policy makers in an international context;
  • advanced writing and editing skills in English, and capacity to write articles, reports and policy papers for different audiences.

Junior Data Analyst

Research plays a critical role in political life. Making insights from public opinion and elections available and understandable for political-decision-making is a key priority for political parties. To accelerate the modernisation of European politics and to further grow the abilities of the ALDE Party Secretariat we are hiring a Junior Data Analyst to join the Research & Empowerment team, based in Brussels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support multi-country public opinion survey research, including questionnaire drafting, quotas setup, survey programming, data analysis, visualisation and presentation
  • Independently collect, clean, process, analyse and visualise data about political parties across Europe
  • Develop analytical procedures and reports related to voting behaviour, elections, fundraising, party competition, etc.
  • Support and manage internal data-related projects across ALDE Party Secretariat
  • Maintain and update databases ensuring their security and accuracy
  • Assist with, or lead, organisation of workshops and training seminars for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with member parties to exchange best practices and information about ALDE activities

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional experience and/or an advanced degree in survey research or a related field (such as political science, psychology, sociology, statistics, communications or similar)
  • Strong quantitative abilities and experience with the statistical programming language R
  • Demonstrable experience creating parametrized reports using R Markdown / Quarto
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects to non-technical audiences
  • Practical experience with quantitative survey design and analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) and both an eye for detail and necessary focus on in-depth analytical work
  • A deep understanding of European politics and party politics is desirable. An affiliation with liberal values and prior campaign experience would be an asset
  • Familiarity with survey platforms such as Qualtrics or CMIX would be considered a strong asset
  • Experience working with Geodata, SQL and data visualisation would be considered a strong asset
