We are looking for a new colleague to join our Circular Economy team with the following experience, skills and character: 

  • A degree in a relevant subject such as environmental sciences, natural sciences, natural resource management, engineering, public management, finance, financial management and business administration, economics, planning, local development, social sciences or any other relevant fields;
  • A minimum of 1 years’ work experience in a field related to the circular economy
  • A good understanding of the concept of circular economy, and the roles that local government can play in facilitating and enabling the circular transition.
  • Ability to be well organised, prioritise tasks and produce good quality work.
  • Interest and ability to develop new competencies and areas of specialist knowledge
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of external organisations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a very good command of English (reading, writing and speaking). 

Desirable:

  • Experience of working on European funded projects or service contracts;
  • Experience of working with local government
  • Knowledge of European policy and legislation relating to waste and resource management, and the circular economy
  • Detailed knowledge of specific material streams relevant to the circular economy at the local level, including an understanding of key barriers, stakeholders and opportunities
  • Additional European language(s)

Your position will include the following main tasks: 

  • Support the implementation European projects that support cities in implementing circular economy initiatives.
  • Undertake research and support the development of publications targeted at local policy makers, including reports, guidance, policy briefs and case studies. 
  • Support the organisation of virtual, hybrid and in-person workshops, communities of practice and meetings that encourage people to participate, learn and network.
  • Support in the identification of funding opportunities and the development of project proposals

We offer you the following conditions: 

  • Initial 24 months contract with high potential for extension
  • Gross salary according to the Junior Expert position in ICLEI’s salary grid
  • (indicative: EUR 43.000 – 45.000 per annum)
  • Place of work: Freiburg/Germany
  • 40h working week with flexible working time and the possibility to work up to 50% remote
  • 6 weeks of paid leave per annum

Plant Nutrition Officer

Fertilizers Europe is searching for a Plant Nutrition Officer - 1 year (maternity leave) with eventual contract extension to join our team. The Association represents the interests of the European fertilizer industry. We are the source of information on  fertilizers and the sector’s voice in Europe. We deal with questions related to agriculture,  environment, technology, safety, climate, economy and trade, as well as supporting our members  with statistics and other information. Academic profile  

• You have a University degree in agriculture/environment or a relevant scientific background.

What would be your tasks? 

• Support activities in the areas of agriculture and plant nutrition. 

• Coordinate and interact with other plant nutrition stakeholders (EBIC, ECOFI, APEP…).

• Organise and support Agriculture Committee and related working groups/task forces. • Carry out projects and studies in the areas of plant nutrition. 

• Follow scientific debate on fertilizers and nutrients. 

• Follow discussions on nutrient use efficiency and similar themes. 

• Develop understanding of plant nutrition, organic fertilizers and bio stimulants.

• Monitor and react to EU discussions on agricultural and plant nutrition issues of concern.

• Represent the association in plant nutrition forums. 

• Communicate with EU-institutions, e.g. DG AGRI and DG ENVI, and other stakeholders of the food  chain, especially COPA/COGECA. 

What you have 

• Minimum 4 years of working experience with relevant background. 

• Experience in public relations and advocacy is a plus.

  • Draft compelling content for various communication channels (e.g. social media, websites, press releases etc.).

a full-time journalist to cover EU agriculture and food policy (based in Berlin)

The ideal candidate will be expected to deliver both breaking news stories and in-depth feature articles focusing on national agricultural and food policy and and how its implications for the EU.

The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a sharp news sense, breaking stories as well as exclusive features about legislative activity in Berlin and its impact on Europe, and being confident in linking with politicians, business leaders and activists.

Main responsibilities:

  • Write breaking news stories, interviews, as well as in-depth feature articles and analytical pieces
  • Conduct interviews with high-level federal and state officials, business leaders and policy experts
  • Identify stories at the intersection of policy and politics, putting often complex issues into simple language for a wider German speaking global audience
  • Contribute to meeting Euractiv’s editorial mission and commitment to balanced reporting

Profile:

  • At least three years of experience in journalism and in EU agriculture and food policy.
  • Native German speaking.
  • Strong English-language writing skills.
  • Ability to deliver accurate stories in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to think quickly and provide insights and perspective on reports coming from a wide variety of sources, including EU institutions, business associations and civil society.
  • Hard-working, able to respect tight deadlines, entrepreneurial, team-player.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a Trainee Consultant to work with and complement our Healthcare practice. You need to be proactive, solution-driven, willing to take the extra mile and having excellent attention to detail.

The role includes daily monitoring of various issues (legislative and non-legislative), conducting research, drafting newsletters and policy briefings, helping in organising trainings and workshops, and providing overall support to more senior staff members.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • EU national or work permit holder as the traineeship is in Brussels, Belgium
  • A previous traineeship in the health and/ or pharmaceutical sectors. Candidates without experience in these sectors will not be considered
  • Perfect command of English; additional language skills an asset - ideally German or French
  • Strong planning skills
  • Advanced research and writing skills, including the ability to summarise issues quickly and accurately
  • Ability to work in a team, whilst at the same time carrying out own tasks independently and to agreed deadlines
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, ability to work under tight deadlines in an international environment

Desirable:

About Metal Packaging Europe

Metal Packaging Europe (https://metalpackagingeurope.org) is a Brussels-based industry association representing the interests of rigid metal packaging at European level, and bringing together manufacturers and national associations. 

 

About the role: We are looking for a new team member who would be responsible for coordinating the work of the beverage cans section, covering sustainability issues, EU legislation, public affairs, communication and project management. 

 

Key responsibilities and activities

  • Follow up EU policies as part of the EU Green Deal notably on climate change, circular economy, packaging waste, green claims, recycling, food waste, food contact.
  • Develop position papers and policy briefings, responses to public consultations, advocacy documents and others relevant for the beverage cans industry. 
  • Support and coordination of beverage cans section meetings, projects, campaigns and events. 
  • Enagage with EU policy makers and other external stakeholder or partners. 
  • Liaise with beverage can members at EU and national level. 
  • Contribute to the overall Metal Packaging Europe strategy, public affairs, projects and communication activities.

Required qualifications.

  • University degree in either European studies, law, or sustainability.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in EU sustainability policy and public affairs.
  • Good understanding of waste and packaging-related topics, including Extended Producer Responsibility. Previous experience within FMCG companies, EU institutions or consultancies is a plus.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of another European language is an asset.
  • Eligible to work in Belgium.
