Meeting of Environment Council (ENVI)

The Environment Council works to promote a harmonious, balanced and sustainable development of the EU economic activities. More specifically the council works to ensure quality of the environment and a prudent and rational utilization of natural resources.
 
At the global level it is working to promote measures that contribute to solving the global environmental problems. The Council consists of the Member States’ ministers of Climate and Environment and they congregate appr. four times a year.

Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs (JHA)

The Ministers of the Council of Justice and Home Affairs, also known as the JHA Council, deals with the development and implementation of cooperation and common policies in the field of Justice and Home Affairs. This applies in particular to combating crime, judicial cooperation, police cooperation and cooperation on immigration, borders and asylum. The council typically meets once a month and the Member States are represented by their Ministers of Justice and Interior.

Meeting of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council

The Council (Transport, Telecommunications and Energy) works among other things to promote transportation by land, sea and air, to liberalize markets for IT and telecommunications as well as to promote reliable and climate friendly energy supplies at reasonable prices. The Council comprises of the Ministers responsible for either transportation, telecommunications or energy, depending on which items are on the agenda, and they typically meet every second month.

Meeting of Competitiveness Council (COMPET)

30 May 2012 to 31 May 2012
The EU ministers responsible for the single market, industry and research usually meet four times annually in the Competitiveness Council. The council is responsible for further developing the EU’s single market and ensuring the framework conditions for European industry and research. 2012 marks the 20 years anniversary of the launch of the Single Market and during the Danish Presidency the EU will negotiate a reform of the Single Market, which incorporates the latest digital development.
 

Meeting of General Affairs Council (GAC)

29 May 2012

In the General Affairs Council (GAC) the ministers coordinates the preparation of and follow-up on meetings in the European Council and covers dossiers of cross-cutting nature, thus affecting more than one EU policies - including negotiations on EU enlargement, preparation of the EU's multiannual financial frameworks and institutional and administrative matters. The council typically meets once a month and the Member States are represented by either their Minister of Foreign or European Affairs.

 

 

 

Meeting of Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRI)

14 May 2012 to 15 May 2012
The Council (Agriculture and Fisheries) consists of the Member States’ ministers of fisheries and agriculture and they congregate about once a month. The agricultural and fisheries policies relate to the regulation of markets and determination of avail-able resources. Sustainable development of fisheries and rural areas, challenges regarding climate change, environmental concerns, animal welfare and food safety are main issues.

Meeting of Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN)

The ECOFIN Council covers the coordination of the economic policies. ECOFIN monitors the economy and keep control of the budgetary policy, public finances, the euro, financial markets and capital movements. It also prepares and adopts the annual budget for the EU together with the European Parliament. The Council consists of the Member States’ ministers of finance and economic affairs and they congregate about once a month, while the group of eurozone countries usually meet the day before.
