The Nickel Institute is looking for a Regulatory Affairs Manager to manage the Nickel EU REACH Consortia and provide support with other chemicals management regulations in the EU and other jurisdictions.

The Nickel Institute is the global association of leading primary nickel producers. Our mission is to advocate for the responsible supply of nickel and the sustainable development of the nickel industry. Through our science division NiPERA Inc., we undertake leading-edge scientific research relevant to human health and the environment. The NI is the centre of excellence for information on nickel and nickel-containing materials and has offices in Asia, Europe and North America.

 

Role and Responsibilities of the Regulatory Affairs Manager:

As Regulatory Affairs Manager, you will join our Public Policy and Sustainability team and manage the EU Nickel REACH Consortia and related programs. The main objective is to keep registration dossiers up to date and ensure they are of high quality as a basis for regulatory scrutiny and decision-making. You will collaborate closely with our science division, with members of the Nickel Institute, and with downstream users in different sectors (e.g., alloys such as stainless steel, batteries, catalysts, and surface treatment). You will ensure the preparation of up-to-date exposure assessments by the dedicated consultants and the communication of safe use information, and draft and implement the Nickel REACH Consortia work plan (including budget and HR).

 

You will also lead discussions with authorities in case of dossier or substance evaluations under REACH. Providing input for other regulatory processes related to REACH registrations (e.g. restrictions, regulatory/risk management options analyses) and providing support with other chemicals management regulations in the EU and other jurisdictions will also be part of your role.

 

You will follow and contribute to technical and regulatory exchanges in the non-ferrous metals industry sector (e.g. classification of substances and mixtures, exposure assessments, regulatory developments, etc.), in particular by participating in relevant fora of Eurometaux.

 

The Regulatory Affairs Manager position reports to the Senior Manager Regulatory Affairs.

 

Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree, preferably in natural sciences or engineering. Other Master's degrees (e.g. in political sciences, law or economics) are acceptable if accompanied by particularly relevant technical experience.
  • A good knowledge of the REACH regulation and the CLP Regulation.
  • Project Management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent skills in communication, networking and interpersonal relationships across cultures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and also independently.
  • Available to travel within and outside the EU.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.

Assets:

  • Ability to understand exposure assessment & risk characterisation (environment, workers, consumers, general population) and recommended risk management measures.
  • Experience in consortium management or working in an industry association
  • Knowledge of IUCLID chemical database for reporting & storing information on chemicals
  • Familiar with the metals and/or inorganics industry
  • Knowledge of other EU health and/or environmental legislation
  • Knowledge of other EU languages

The Location: The Regulatory Affairs Manager will be based in Brussels. The Nickel Institute’s office is located at Rue Belliard 12, 1040 Brussels, in the heart of the European district.
