E3G is looking for a Policy Advisor to develop and deliver our work on the intersection between EU trade and climate policy. The role would be based in E3G’s Brussels office.

Overview 

Based in the Industry Transition and Trade team, this Policy Advisor role will contribute to developing and delivering E3G’s work on green trade, working on the intersection of trade and climate policies in the EU and internationally. The role will combine thought leadership with political analysis and engagement.  

The successful candidate will help develop our strategy, identify priority interventions, and strengthen our network on trade. The role will require a deep understanding of the connections between trade and climate policy and a strong interest in the cross-cutting institutions and policies needed to deliver a climate-neutral European economy. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Develop and deliver E3G thought leadership on better aligning trade policy with climate ambition in the EU and internationally.  
  • Tracking developments in EU trade policy, external relationships with trade partners and implications for climate politics and wider E3G priorities. 
  • Develop E3G’s position as a voice in conversations on trade and climate policy, develop propositions and lead advocacy and strengthen E3G’s networks on trade in the EU and internationally. 
  • Engage with and help to convene key stakeholder networks and supporting NGOs, businesses and investor groups, as well as managing relationships with these stakeholders. 
  • Produce internal and external communications materials and undertake short pieces of wider analysis. 
  • Travel will be required, but we are open to discussing this if this would otherwise become a barrier to your application. 

Profile and requirements 

 You are intellectually curious and enthusiastic about working with others to develop solutions in the transition towards climate neutral and resilient economies. You are committed to high quality outputs even when under pressure and use collaboration to get to better outcomes. You are a creative thinker and able to learn fast. You are able to reflect on your own strengths and weaknesses and work in a team of diverse personalities.  

You are comfortable working on complex research projects and confident in running analytical processes. You will be able to help identify and engage with a range of external stakeholders to understand their perspectives and communicate ideas and findings.  

Experience and skills 

 The successful candidate will:  

  • Have a high-quality degree or professional qualification in a relevant area.  
  • Have at least three years of relevant professional experience. 
  • Have a strong background in trade policy and politics.  
  • Be adept at communicating clear, accessible research and presenting ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues and contacts.   
  • Have strong research skills with intellectual curiosity, and creativity.  
  • Be a supportive, collaborative, and open colleague and team player. Be used to operating within diverse teams, with a high degree of cultural sensitivity. Be confident engaging stakeholders.  
  • Be well organised and focused on delivering desired outputs, results, and outcomes.

  • Permanent contract with E3G ASBL (Brussels office).   
  • Work-life balance. Enjoy a 35-hour workweek with a hybrid work model (teleworking up to 3 days per week on average) flexitime.

E3G is unable to provide any relocation assistance to candidates who would need to move in order to take up this position. E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in Belgium.
