If you have enthusiasm for EU politics, are curious, have a flair for communication, and are keen to work in a fast-paced newsroom, you might be the person we are looking for.

Euractiv is looking for a Newsroom Trainee – Social Media, to join its Brussels team to help us disseminate the news effectively as the EU begins its new policy-making cycle.

The ideal candidate will be expected to understand the range of social media platforms that Euractiv uses, the demographics that are interested in each, and have excellent communication skills in order to be able to use them effectively. They also need to demonstrate real interest in EU news and policy, as being an avid consumer of the output of Euractiv’s newsroom will be necessary to do the job well.

Candidates should be available to start on Monday 2 September.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead on posting news stories from Euractiv onto its social media channels (in order of priority: X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Whatsapp, Threads, Facebook, Bluesky, Mastodon);
  • Monitor the inboxes of all social media channels as well as the general editorial email inbox, to ensure quick replies to queries from the readership;
  • Keep an eye on the performance of content and individual social media channels, striving to continuously enhance engagement;
  • Design images, illustrations, and graphics, (in Canva) sometimes in collaboration with Euractiv’s Graphic Designer, for use on social media;
  • Other administrative tasks to support the efficient functioning of the newsroom;
  • Contribute to meeting Euractiv’s editorial mission, and commitment to balanced, trustworthy, reporting.

Ideal profile:

  • Proven understanding of and interest in EU politics and policies;
  • Fluency in English - other European languages are a plus (particularly German, French, &/or Italian);
  • Proactive in making sure Euractiv’s priority stories are properly promoted online;
  • Supportive of others, important for helping reporters grow their profiles;
  • Attention-to-detail
  • Flexible, go-getting, team player;

  • 6 months to one-year contract under Belgian law (CIP). Paid internship. First 6 months salary of 1.120€. Second 6 months salary of 1.400€.
