Ohana Public Affairs, Brussels-based boutique public affairs consultancy focusing on sustainability, is looking to reinforce its Transparency and Supply Chain team following our recent launch into agri-food. We are looking for a public affairs consultant that will focus on public affairs and sustainability-related initiatives, with a focus on the European Green Deal and sustainable supply chain legislation ranging from EU Deforestation regulation to Corporate Sustainaiblity Due Diligence and other relevant legislation for the agri-food sector. The role will support clients on public affairs and preparation for the compliance.
The role will work in close partnership and collaboration with 3 members of the Transparency and Supply Chain team and perform a wide range of public affairs activities for clients ranging from brands to industry standards, government stakeholders and NGOs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading on and implementing public affairs strategies related to sustainable supply chain policies and other relevant legislation
- Monitoring EU developments and delivering up-to-date intelligence
- Undertaking research and drafting policy briefs
- Delivering clear, precise and client-driven analysis and advice
- Liaising with European institutions and other stakeholders
- Managing day to day client relationships
- Drive the development of new business
- Contribute to the preparation of communications materials, position papers and stakeholder outreach programmes.
- Contributing to Ohana’s mission of driving change through awareness-raising with blog articles
- Participating in 1% For The Planet with a pro-bono support to one organisation.
Qualifications and experience
- 3-6 year work experience as public affairs expert, policy expert, in sustainability or supply chain-related role in a company, consultancy, NGO, the EU Institutions or industry associations. Knowledge of supply chain and agricultural commodities, including the tropical ones such as coffee, cocoa, palm oil or others is an advantage.
- Keen interest and experience in or around the agri-food industry
- Experience with and current EU policy developments
- Thorough understanding of EU policy making process and institutions
- Experience working with and advising stakeholders at a senior level
- Entrepreneurial mind-set
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, meet tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, and maintain attention to detail.
- Well organised and able to manage multiple parallel priorities
- Excellent social skills to interact and engage with a diverse range of policy stakeholders
- Expanded network of contacts in Brussels
- Excellent English skills (speaking and writing) – additional languages are a plus
- Applicants must be eligible to work in Belgium.
