About the role:
The Head of EU Government Affairs plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing doTERRA’s public policy strategy across the European Union. This position serves as the company’s primary representative to EU institutions, Member State authorities, trade associations, and key external stakeholders, building trusted relationships that support doTERRA’s long-term business objectives and reputation.
Working closely with Global Government Relations, Regulatory, Legal, and senior leadership, this role monitors and interprets legislative and regulatory developments, develops advocacy strategies, and provides strategic guidance on emerging policy issues affecting the business. Through proactive stakeholder engagement, policy analysis, and cross-functional collaboration, the Head of EU Government Affairs helps ensure doTERRA’s voice is effectively represented while supporting a compliant and sustainable operating environment across Europe.
Role could be based in either of our Germany, UK, Ireland or Luxembourg based offices depending on the successful candidate’s location, office presence is required in the early phases of the employment, but with home office opportunity later.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead advocacy and engagement with EU institutions, including the European Commission, European Parliament, Council, regulatory agencies, and key Member States.
- Shape and implement doTERRA’s EU Government Affairs strategy, ensuring the company’s priorities are effectively communicated and advanced.
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret policy developments affecting essential oils, natural products, and supplements, providing actionable insights and recommendations to leadership.
- Coordinate across internal functions — Global Government Relations, Regulatory, and Legal — to ensure aligned advocacy and compliance strategies.
- Represent doTERRA within key trade associations to ensure consistent and influential industry participation.
- Manage doTERRA’s relationship with its EU public affairs agency, setting priorities, evaluating outcomes, and aligning activities with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Prepare high-quality policy briefs and strategic updates for senior leadership, supporting informed decision-making and external positioning.
- Regular travel to Brussels and Strasbourg, expected to range between 30% to 40%.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Political Science, European Studies, Public Policy, Law, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in EU public affairs, government relations, or regulatory advocacy.
- Demonstrated success engaging with EU institutions, trade associations, and policymakers in highly regulated sectors (e.g., health & wellbeing, consumer goods, life sciences).
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to influence across cultures and seniority levels.
- Fluent English required; additional European languages preferred.
