5Rights is seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Communications Intern to support the delivery of our external communications work. This role provides hands-on experience across digital communications, media, campaigns, events, and publications, working closely with the Communications Officer and Head of Communications within a small, high-impact advocacy organisation.

Role Purpose
The Communications Intern will play an important supporting role in helping ensure our messaging is consistent, engaging and effectively reaches global audiences, while gaining valuable experience in advocacy communications, digital campaiging and policy-related work.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to real-world change for children and young people and to develop a strong foundation in professional communications practice.
Key Responsibilities
Working under the guidance of the Head of Communications, the Communications Intern will:
- Support the creation and scheduling of content for social media platforms and the website.
- Assist with the design and formatting of communications materials, including presentations, social media graphics and publications.
- Assist with drafting communications materials, including articles, social media copy, newsletters and press content.
- Assist with the production of our youth-led podcast.
- Help monitor media coverage, news trends and digital conversations relevant to 5Rights’ work.
- Maintain and update media contact lists and communications databases.
- Provide administrative, research and logistical support for communications campaigns and events.
- Support the production of the monthly newsletter and other regular communications outputs.
- Assist with internal coordination to ensure communications align with advocacy priorities.
Person specification
Essential skills and attributes:

- A strong interest in communications, media, public affairs, advocacy, social media, podcastingor related fields.
- Degree in communications, journalism, politics, international relations, marketing or a related subject.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, concise and powerful narrative
- Attention to detail.
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- A proactive, reliable and positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
- Confidence working both independently and as part of a remote, international team.
- Strong digital literacy and familiarity with social media platforms.
- Basic experience using design and video editing tools such as Canva, Adobe, or similar
Desirable skills and attributes:
- An interest in child rights, digital policy, technology regulation or social justice.
- Experience with website content management systems (e.g. WordPress), newsletters (e.g. Mailchimp) or basic analytics tools.
- Knowledge of the international media and policy landscape.
- Experience working in culturally diverse environments.
- Additional language skills, particularly French or Spanish.
Practical details
We are offering an initial six-month remote CIP (professional immersion contract) based in Brussels, Belgium. This paid internship offers a stipend of a gross €1,500 per month. Candidates should be prepared to work flexible hours to accommodate different time zones.Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in Belgium.
