THE ECONOMIC AND TRADE AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT IN AN INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION DEALING WITH EU AFFAIRS IS RECRUITING:
Trade Policy Advisor (Maternity Cover)
The Department is responsible for enhancing trade and economic relations with the EU. Our main
objectives are to facilitate and enhance trade relationships with the EU and to foster bilateral trade, by
assisting the entry or expansion of companies into the local market. This is carried out by reviewing
relevant trade policy proposed or published by the EU Institutions and analyzing its possible effects
on trade. Additional information will be given to relevant candidates.
Main Responsibilities:
▪ Conducting monitoring and analysis of European regulation in various areas and its impact
on third-country industries;
▪ Participating in discussions, working groups and committees in the field of trade and
industry in the EU;
▪ Ongoing monitoring of developments in EU legislation;
▪ Handling inquiries from companies and institutions from various commercial fields;
▪ Assistance in drafting position papers, conducting background research as required;
▪ Data collection, analysis, and preparation of economic and commercial reviews;
▪ Meeting with other third-country representatives, trade associations, and other
stakeholders in order to gather relevant information and report to headquarters;
▪ Contribution to the preparation of policy notes, presentations, and briefing material that are
clear, concise, and relevant for policy makers;
▪ Writing content, editing, and uploading to newsletters and departmental websites;
▪ Coordination and organization of incoming and outgoing delegations in the fields of trade.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
▪ A university degree, with preference to an advanced degree in economics, international
relations, law, business or related subjects, preference to having links to the field of
international trade and investment;
▪ Familiarity with EU institutions and their work or relevant experience in work that integrates
an interface with EU institutions;
▪ At least two years of relevant experience, preferably in public policy analysis related to
international trade and investment. (Internship experience can account for a maximum of
1-year experience);
▪ Proven capacity for sound analytical and policy-orientated work; ability to execute
effectively project assignments; proven ability to synthesize technical and policy-orientated
issues at the governmental and/or intergovernmental levels;
▪ Proven ability to master new topics rapidly, and to draft clear and concise material,
including under short deadlines;
▪ Ability to work both in a team and independently and excellent interpersonal skills in a
multicultural working environment;
▪ Fluency in English (writing, reading, and speaking). Knowledge of other languages would
be an asset.
Additional Information:
▪ six months maternity cover with a possible extension
▪ Contract under Belgian law;
▪ Market-competitive salary;
▪ Reimbursement of commuting expenses (public transportation);

▪ Location: Brussels, Belgium.
The selection process consists of a phone/ zoom interview, written assignment and an formal
interview. Employment is subject to security clearance.
