You like to take on responsibility and you want to play an active role in ensuring fair social conditions for European farmers?
We have the job for you!

About us:

The European Milk Board (EMB) has been advocating for the social concerns of Europe’s farmers for almost 20 years. With 21 member organisations from 16 countries, we stand for socially sustainable agriculture that not only improves farmers’ working conditions, but also has a positive impact on rural areas, the environment and the diversity of milk production.

As a steadfast partner of European dairy farmers, we strive for a fair, just agricultural policy that gives producers the support they need and deserve. With a small, dynamic team in Brussels and in other parts of Europe, we actively contribute to shaping the political landscape and represent farmers’ concerns at EU level.

Your tasks:

As Managing Director, you will fulfil a key role in our association and significantly contribute to advancing the EMB’s goals and values. Your tasks will include:

  • Operational management of the association, specifically when it comes to finances, human resources, statutes and legal matters.
  • Administration and organisation of the association’s activities, including administrative matters, trade marks, web domains, IT as well as the Fair Milk aspect.
  • Collaboration with the Executive Committee: You will implement the Executive Committee’s priorities in close cooperation with the Senior Policy Advisor who is responsible for the association’s political work.
  • Collaboration with the member organisations: You will communicate with the EMB’s international member organisations and coordinate joint projects.
  • Team leadership: You will promote a positive, open culture in the association and contribute to the team’s continued development.
  • Small team - hands-on: You will be actively involved in the execution of tasks together with your colleagues. They include organising events, scheduling meetings and drafting working documents, among others.
  • Office organisation: You will ensure that the office runs efficiently and that organisational flows function smoothly, in close cooperation with the Senior Policy Advisor.
  • Political dimension: As Managing Director, you will represent the interests of European dairy farmers before EU policy-makers and other relevant stakeholders, and will play an active role in political lobbying.

Your profile:

  • Background: You have an academic degree in law, agricultural science, political science, economics, business or another related field. Experience in office / organisation management or a former position with responsibility is an advantage.
  • Experience: You have sound knowledge in managing and organising the work of an association or organisation, or in skilfully supporting management structures, ideally within the context of agriculture and/or European institutions.
  • Motivation: You are highly motivated to support the farmers with your work.
  • Communication skills: You have a clear, convincing communication style that you can deploy internally within the team as well as externally with partners, companies, policy-makers and other stakeholders.
  • Language skills: You are highly proficient in spoken and written English, German and French.
  • Interpersonal skills: You are empathetic and can create a good working environment, and can nurture and further develop existing relationships.
  • Flexibility and conscientiousness: You can work independently and you are flexible and highly motivated to work in a small team within a dynamic sector.

What we offer:

  • A meaningful job: As the EMB Managing Director, you will help shape the future of European milk production and will make a first-hand contribution to fairer, more sustainable agricultural policy.
  • An international work environment: You will be part of a committed, multicultural team and will be in contact with policy-makers at EU level.
  • Growth and further development: Grab this opportunity to take responsibility through this key position and to play your part in the EMB’s development.
  • Induction: You will be introduced to and familiarised with your role by competent colleagues and Executive Committee representatives.
  • Location: The position is in Brussels, at the heart of European policy-making.
