Role: Communications Officer in the GERG Secretariat
Visual content creation and engagement management.
Contract:
Full-time contract for an indefinite period
OR
End-of-studies internship, Master’s level, with potential for conversion to a full-time employment contract.
Location: Brussels based preferred. Flexible teleworking, hybrid.
Reports to: GERG Operations Manager
Starting: Starting date flexible from February 2025
About GERG:
The European Gas Research Group (GERG) is a non-profit association, promoting collaborative research to cement and realise the role of gas infrastructure in the energy transition. Today the association counts over 30 members from European countries: gas operators, research organisations, universities, for whom it provides a forum for discussion, technological exchange and information dissemination. GERG R&D projects focus on four strategic areas: hydrogen, biomethane, methane emissions, and carbon capture and storage. The projects are initiated by the members or answer a demand from the European Commission.
GERG is a consortium member in several European-funded projects. The main role for GERG is to contribute to the project impact - communicating the results of the project to the right stakeholders to ensure the information generated by this public-funded hits its intended mark, and that the project team has access to feedback from the expert community to support their work.
GERG is administered by a team of 8 people, led by the Secretary General, who manage the work of the association, provide value to the membership, and deliver the contributions to European-funded projects. The Association has an office in the heart of the EU quarter of Brussels.

Placement objectives and role:
- Implement the GERG Communication strategy to amplify the Association’s visibility and impact, and the impact of its project portfolio.
- Support the respective Project Coordinators to deliver the tasks assigned to GERG within each project, complying with the project
- Communication and dissemination plan, by monitoring communication milestones.Create visual content for project and GERG social media;
- Update the projects and GERG website information;
- Produce and distribute newsletters based on content provided by colleagues from the Secretariat;
- Create communication materials aimed at various audiences based on technical information provided;
- Monitor the impact of communication activities through relevant KPIs.
- On an ad-hoc basis, organise stakeholder engagement events, such as workshops and conferences, to share project outcomes and facilitate dialogue.
Knowledge, Experience & Technical Know How:
- Interest in working within the energy technology sector (in particular gaseous fuels, hydrogen, biomethane, CCUS); previous related work experience would be an advantage;
- Excellent communication skills, with experience in translating complex technical information into accessible content;
- Good project management ability, planning and allocating time to tasks;
- Proficiency in Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and familiarity with website management tools (WordPress);
- Proficiency in graphic design tools and editing software (Canva, Adobe Suite, other);
- Fluent in English, good drafting ability;
- Good team player, ability to build positive and effective relationships and collaborate with colleagues.
Qualifications Required:
Master’s level or equivalent, communications, public relations, energy, environmental sciences, or a related field.
Candidates looking for an end-of-studies internship are also welcome to apply, with a possibility to continue working in a permanent position after the end of the internship.
