In addition to its work for the German government, GIZ is also called upon by international organisation, governments, foundations, and companies operating globally for the elaboration and implementation of development projects. The business unit ‘GIZ International Services’ (InS) is responsible for these clients. The clients benefit from more than 40 years of practical experience in international cooperation and the knowledge gained from more than 10,000 successfully implemented programs and projects in over 120 countries in a wide range of sectors.
To strengthen our Africa team, we are looking for a business development support and administrative assistant (m/f), to be based in Brussels. Occasional travel to GIZ HQ in Germany or to Sub Saharan Africa for meetings or workshops will be required.
Your will be supporting the development of both the Francophone Africa (main focus) and the Anglophone Africa portfolio. If you are proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to work in a dynamic, multicultural environment, this job could be for you!

Your tasks can be summarized as follows:
Procurement support
- Backstopping tasks in support of the Project Managers, especially with regard to the preparation of contracts with international experts.
Support to acquisition processes
- Screening of opportunities on different databases
- Preparation of Letters of Interest both in French and English, incl. researching, preparing and formatting project references;
- Filing of project references and other documents in the company’s document management system;
- Support with checking and formatting CVs of Experts, verifying support documents such as employer certificates;
- Preparation of GIZ administrative documents for technical offers for our EU project tenders;
- Communicating with external cooperation partners, collecting, checking and verifying their reference projects and formal documents;
- Support to the production of our technical and financial proposals;
General admin support
- Proper archiving of documents and documentation of processes;
- Assistance with travel arrangements;
- Support to the organisation of team meetings;
- Minor translation or correction work of texts;
- Other administrative and secretarial tasks;
Your profile
- You have a bachelor diploma.
- You have initial professional experience as a business support officer or as a management assistant in the context of international development cooperation.
- Knowledge of the tender processes of international clients is an advantage.
- You have excellent communication skills.
- You love teamwork and are service orientated.
- You are capable to work on different tasks at the same time in a structured manner and with an eye for detail.
- Excellent coordination and organizational skills distinguish you.
- Even under high pressure, you demonstrate commitment and attention to detail.
- Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken, is a must. Knowledge of the German language would be a great advantage.
Other competences:
- Full IT proficiency (current MS Office, including 365 cloud applications);
