Hekla is an independent EU advocacy and communications consultancy. 

We are a currently a team of experienced consultants and freelancers who have worked for some of the biggest consultancies and organisations in the world, across a wide range of high-profile sectors and policy areas. Our clients include businesses, trade associations, and civil society organizations. Doing interesting and challenging work and making a positive difference are what motivate us. 

The role

We are looking for an EU Advocacy Consultant to join our team in Brussels. Your primary responsibility will be developing and implementing public affairs programmes for our clients, but, ideally, we would also like you contribute to our communications work. We already have a very strong client base and several very exciting projects in the pipeline. We’re also looking for new clients so you would be involved in business development.  

What would make you a great fit? 

Fundamentally we’re looking to bring talent into the team (on a full-time, part time or freelance basis). We want somebody who will do a great job for our clients, has ambition, brings fresh ideas, and shares our culture and attitude towards work. The perfect candidate will have a minimum of:

  • 4 years’ experience in either a consultancy, in-house or the EU Institutions. 
  • A strong knowledge of EU affairs and track record of successful advocacy campaigning. 
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with policymakers and stakeholders. 
  • The ability to analyse and advise clients on policy and political developments.  
  • Experience of health, social, materials and sustainability and research policy would be an advantage. 
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and an entrepreneurial mindset. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational, project management and client-handling skills
  • Some communication experience, including media relations, digital and social media, and event management    would be a plus. 
  • Perfect command of English and fluency in at least one other European language. 
  • A results-orientated work ethic and ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
