Euroclima is the regional cooperation programme that fosters the strategic partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean, based on shared values and a commitment to jointly address climate change and biodiversity loss.

Euroclima is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Government through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It seeks to contribute to sustainable, resilient and inclusive transition through climate mitigation and adaptation efforts, including protection, restoration, biodiversity conservation and the promotion of the circular economy. 

Euroclima is part of the renewed Agenda for Relations between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean and is part of the Global Gateway strategy that promotes investments and financing in relevant sectors, as well as the use of other instruments of the EU and its Member States to achieve more sustainable, just and interconnected societies. 

It is implemented under the spirit of Team Europe, through the synergic work of seven agencies: Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), AFD Group: Agence Française de Développement (AFD)/ Expertise France (EF), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Fundación Internacional y para Iberoamérica de Administración y Políticas Públicas (FIIAPP), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

GIZ is looking for a communications specialist (m/f/d) for our Euroclima team in Brussels

The responsibilities of the position include:

  • Elaborate communication products (speeches, articles, audiovisual scripts and other formats) and relevant journalistic material for the dissemination and positioning of Euroclima GIZ's and their partner’s actions;
  • Advise, design and implement communication actions for the initiatives implemented by Euroclima GIZ in Latin America and the Caribbean;
  • Supporting the leadership and coordination of the project communication teams
  • Develop terms of reference for external services and manage the implementation of these services in the field of awareness-raising, visibility et al.;
  • Support the elaboration of communication plans and strategies for GIZ Euroclima, with a special focus on European audiences.
  • Support GIZ Euroclima communication and visibility actions, such as the GIZ Euroclima technical activities (in climate governance, energy, transport, bio-economy) in reaching their transformational goals, in scaling results.
  • Support the internal communication of GIZ Euroclima
  • Support and carry out the organisation, implementation and documentation of events (workshops, conferences etc.), virtually or in.person, Including updating and monitoring of activities;
  • Perform other advisory and assistance tasks attributable to the function, as directed by his/her superior.

Profile

  • University degree, preferably in journalism, strategic communications, political communications or related fields.
  • At least five years of professional experience in corporative communications or public institutions communications. Experience in the field of C4D communication or international cooperation is a strong asset.
  • Work experience in storytelling, impacts communications and human perspectives communications is required.
  • Strong proven writing skills required
  • Native German speaker. Proficient in written and spoken English and Spanish (comparable to C2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for at least one of two languages) is a requirement.
  • Work experience in developing countries (preferably in Latin America, Caribbean) and experience with international cooperation institutions is an asset.
  • Hands on, creative, highly motivated and result oriented personality
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural team and liaise effectively and sensitively with different stakeholders
  • Experience in engaging with diverse communities through inclusive communications and engagement processes is an asset
  • Willingness to travel for longer periods (i.a. 4 weeks) to the partner region.
  • Passionate about fighting climate change

We offer a temporary contract with GIZ in Brussels under Belgian law (PC200). The position will be remunerated according to the level of experience. In addition to the legal holidays, you will receive 5 extra days of holiday per calendar year, as well as lunch checks, health insurance for hospitalisation and the reimbursement of a monthly ticket for Brussels public transport and the possibility for home office in accordance with our respective policy.
