Internship Programme - Committees Officer

We are looking for enthusiastic, committed and hard-working talent to support us in our extensive EU Policy Committees activities.

You will collect valuable information and insights through the provision of practical support to research, organise meetings, events and other member-engagement opportunities. 

If you have a strong interest in EU & EU-UK affairs (especially in the Competition, Digital and Financial Services areas), are an excellent communicator and would like the opportunity to work in a dynamic English-speaking business environment in Brussels for up to a year, we would like to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

Meeting & Event Organising and Management / Programme Support

  • Effective interaction with our stakeholders in and around specific EU topics, understanding their objectives and policy interests and how to achieve those proactively, creatively and effectively through the activities of committees.
  • Support the Competition, Digital and Financial Services Committees in delivering the overall Chamber value proposition.
  • Research into the relevant and committee specific EU policy areas.
  • Coordination of different activities simultaneously, setting priorities efficiently.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders before, during and after meetings / events to ensure a smooth and professional user-experience.
  • Liaise with confirmed speakers, sponsors and attendees as necessary in meeting/event preparation.
  • For in-person meetings / events - work with the events team to support all necessary logistics, including (but not restricted to): room set-up, catering, registration process, post-event follow-up, etc.
  • Take notes and produce minutes and/or reports from meetings/events you attend

Marketing and Communications Support

  • Update online marketing tools such as the events’ website, Odoo CRM platform, weekly newsletter.
  • Liaise with the Comms Officer for social media campaigns
  • Keep our online events management system and events website updated at all times.
  • Keep all committee information on website and in digital / printed formats is constantly updated

Business Development Support

  • Pro-actively promote the Committees’ programmes to potential members and support the Chamber team in the recruitment of new members.
  • Assure a general administrative follow up of your activities via our CRM system as well as a professional follow up of emails and production of weekly updates.

Key learning opportunities in the role

  • Exposure to a broad spectre of industry sectors and EU institutions.
  • Engagement with the senior policy stakeholders and the international business community in Belgium and the UK.
  • Insights into the inner workings of a corporate membership organisation and how to create and deliver client value.
  • Hands-on experience with the organisation of policy events and related campaigns.
  • Opportunity to join a great variety of EU briefings and general networking events hosted by the chamber.
  • Preparedness for entering full-time employment - you will learn and experience a great deal in exchange for hard work and ‘contribution’.

Profile

  • You will need to possess the right to live and work in the EU without requiring a work visa, either through nationality or status acquired under the Withdrawal Agreement.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree. Your education demonstrates a clear interest in EU Policy with relevant subjects e.g.: European/International Relations, Politics.
  • Keen interest or relevant expertise/experience in the Competition, Digital and Financial Services sectors.
  • Native/near as English speaker, with excellent writing skills. French is a bonus.
  • Capacity to multitask, very good organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • You easily reach out to others and can adapt to different environments.
  • Ability to work independently and with good time management skills.
  • IT literate and skilled at using online and social media as key tools to create visibility.
  • Looking to take on more responsibility and autonomy.
  • Detailed and organised, able to manage priorities and work under pressure to tight deadlines when needed.
  • Team player.
  • Keen on working in an international and multicultural environment that offers access to a network in the EU/public affairs context.

Details

Start date: January 2025   Duration: 2x6 months

Compensation: This contract will be signed under the rules and obligations of the Belgian ‘Convention d’Immersion Professionelle’ contract with the possibility of prolongation and promotion into a permanent role.  The total salary is €1,350, including allowances of €162.95.

Location: Our offices are centrally located at Boulevard Bischoffsheim 11 – 1000 Brussels, next to Madou metro station.
