The European Broadcasting Union EBU is looking for a Communications Officer.

In this new role, we’re looking for a positive, creative and collaborative all-rounder with a digital-first mindset, solid editorial skills, brand experience and likely 6 to 8 years in communications – ideally in an international role.

The position reports to the Head of Content Communications in Geneva but is based remotely, demanding the ability to work effectively without supervision and as part of a decentralised team.

Native-level skills English (spoken and written) are mandatory and other languages (including French) are assets. Grace under pressure, an open mind and a good sense of humour are welcome.

ABOUT THE EBU COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

The busy EBU Communications team promotes the activities, insights and value of the European Broadcasting Union as the world’s leading alliance of public service media.

From events, social posts, releases and media engagement to strategic and creative advice for projects and teams, EBU Comms works across issues and initiatives that support the EBU, our membership of public broadcasters and the public good.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

Communications & Media Relations

  • In collaboration with Comms colleagues and various teams, devise and implement campaigns to promote of EBU’s activities and value to Members, partners and other key stakeholders
  • Write and edit articles, briefing materials, press releases, web news and other content strategically and creatively for maximum impact, adapting format and tone according to audience and channel
  • Support communications planning, delivery and follow-up for EBU events and publications
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevent news media across Europe
  • Respond to media enquiries and work with teams on briefs for key issues
  • Contribute ideas and tactics to increase the profile and impact of the EBU and public service media at events and in the media
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage. Provide feedback on the success of communications campaigns
  • Support and advise on issues management and crisis communications

Social Media

  • Promote EBU activities and insights across HQ social media channels
  • Share oversight of the social media calendar, working with teams across the EBU on content ideas and helping to manage requests
  • Contribute insights and strategic advice on social media trends and best practices
  • Work with various tools to create text, photo, video and graphic assets for major social platforms
  • Monitor EBU and other social channels for risks and opportunities
  • Share the reporting on monthly social media statistics for the Comms team to track performance

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 6 years of experience in a multifaceted and strategic communications role.
  • Must have strong skills in social media strategy, campaign execution, media relations and writing/editing of a variety of content.
  • Professional and confident communicator experienced in social media, public relations, branding, media campaigns and issues management.
  • Able to manage workloads flexibly and efficiently, exercise initiative and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Digital-first mindset: Understands digital channels and has experience creating social media assets, online campaigns and digital content.
  • Brand experience: Strong understanding of brand strategy and consistency, likely from work at aEurope-wide or global organisation.
  • Core communications: Strong writing, editing and media relations skills. Proven experience in crafting clear, engaging messaging across various platforms.
  • Creative and strategic: Able to work innovatively to expand the visibility and engagement of the EBU and our Members.
  • Existing portfolio of journalist contacts with the ability to develop it further to expand media coverage of the EBU.
  • Able to work on a wide variety of projects across the EBU and ensure complex issues are articulated in a meaningful way to varied audiences.

LANGUAGE - Languages: Native-level skills English (spoken and written). Other languages (including French) would be an advantage.

EDUCATION - Qualifications in PR, Marketing or Media are an asset

REQUIREMENT

Must be eligible to work legally in the European region without work permit sponsorship.
