We are looking for a new colleague to join us with the following background, experience, skills and personality:

  • Academic degree in a relevant field (environmental engineering, environmental sciences or management, environmental governance, urban planning and architecture, industrial engineering, or other relevant technical fields);
  • At least three years of professional experience in project development or project management in the fields of environmental management, climate change, smart cities and sustainable urban development; 
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the technological advances, digital technologies and innovations needed to improve environmental quality and reduce climate impact;
  • Experience in working with/for local governments on projects is desirable;
  • Experience in or familiarity with transforming technical content into compelling communications to various audiences;
  • Thorough understanding of concepts of green and digital transitions in a European context;
  • Proficient in English and at least one other European language, spoken and written; more languages are a plus;
  • Confident in interacting and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and with a wide range of partners across disciplines and sectors.

Your position will include the following main tasks:

  • Project management support: Aid in the planning, execution, and oversight of environmental, climate, and smart city projects;
  • Preparing technical reports on project progress and sustainability impact;  
  • Transforming technical content into informative materials for various projects and liaising with external partners to provide regular updates on project progress;
  • Planning and coordinating events and workshops, including communication activities and cross-functional coordination;
  • Conducting research and analysis about tendencies and developments on data-driven and digital technology applications for environment and climate action in cities;
  • Design and delivery of capacity building and awareness creation programmes with cities in the fields of data-driven environmental and climate action, digital and green technologies, etc.

We offer you the following conditions:

  • Initial 24 months contract with high potential for extension;
  • Gross salary according to the Expert position in ICLEI’s salary grid
              (indicative: 50.000 – 53.000 EUR per annum);
  • Place of work: Freiburg, Germany;
  • 40h working week with flexible working time and up to 50% mobile work;
  • 6 weeks of paid leave per annum;
  • Working language is English;
  • Occasional travel within Europe is foreseen.
