The European Biogas Association (EBA) is a member-led organisation representing the entire biogas value chain across Europe. With over 300 members in 35 countries, we are a growing and influential voice in the renewable energy sector. Our mission is to support the scale-up of biogases by engaging with policymakers in Europe and emerging markets to reduce barriers and unlock the sector’s full potential.

EBA is looking for a Technical Director to head EBA’s technical department. The technical department supports EBA’s advocacy work with both technical knowledge and reliable sector data. In addition, the team support its members with year-round sector monitoring, which in turn supports market knowledge and market development. Based on its objectives and detailed market data, EBA has built up high credibility in the market. Furthermore, EBA is also actively involved in Horizon projects and other programmes, coordinated by the technical department. .

Your role

As head of EBA’s technical department, you will develop EBA’s technical strategy and coordinate its implementation. You will further increase EBA’s technical knowledge on a range of topics, such as digestate, biohydrogen, biogenic CO2, methanation and gasification. Furthermore, you will oversee EBA’s flagship technical publications such as the EBA Statistical Report, the European Biomethane Map, the EBA Investment Outlook on Biomethane, as well as EBA’s white papers on dedicated topics. Additionally, you will feed further EBA’s publications with technical information and data and coordinate EBA’s involvement in Horizon Europe and other programs.

The technical director will furthermore:

  • Manage the technical team and report to the CEO.
  • Externally represent the association at EU institutions, as well as towards third parties such as trade associations, scientific and industry experts.
  • Participate in internal and external conferences and (online) events and is able to represent the association as a speaker.
  • Work closely together with the communication, policy teams and secretariat.
  • Set up internal and external workshops and webinars on important technical items for our industry and reaches out proactively to our members as well as outside the EBA to liaise, gather and synthesize information relevant to our sector.
  • Responsible for proper project management.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for new project proposals such as in the Horizon Europe program and collaborate in successfully submitting those.
  • Coordinate with the Scientific Advisory Council and Board on a broad range of topics.

Your Profile

  • Passionate about the sustainability and energy transition.
  • University degree in a related field of environmental engineering, environmental science, agriculture, natural science, engineering.
  • Preferably in-depth knowledge on the European energy market.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an industry organisation, preferably with experience in working for a membership-based association.
  • Perfect command of English and at least one other European language. German and any other language are a definite plus.
  • Strategic and innovative thinker, understands complexity, but can develop practical, implementable solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills, numerical reasoning, logical thinking, eye for detail.
  • Ready to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to translate technical items into communication materials.
  • Ability to work within a multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to travel within Europe.

The candidate will have to demonstrate that he/she has the right to live and work in Belgium.

What would we consider a plus?

  • Experience in Horizon 2020 and/or Horizon Europe program
  • Experience with databases software and data visualisation tools
  • Knowledge of the European Institutions and its decision-make processes
  • Contact network in the European energy sector, relevant to biogasess
