About the Company
EuroGeoSurveys (EGS) is a not-for-profit association representing the Geological Survey Organisations of Europe. Through the collaborative research and activities of our Expert Groups and Task Forces, and provision of open-access, harmonised geological maps, data, and data infrastructure, we provide the European Institutions, regulators, industry, and the public, with expert, balanced and practical pan-European geoscience data and advice to guide policy and to address key societal challenges.
EGS is currently seeking applications for the position of Strategic Communications Officer to join its Secretariat in Brussels. We welcome applications from experienced, dynamic individuals, comfortable with multi-tasking and able to communicate readily with colleagues, members, and providers. Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Secretary General, Director, and Communications Officer, with responsibility for strategic direction of EuroGeoSurveys’ communications, including developing, monitoring, and maintaining strong strategies and implementation
- Coordinate and implement communication activities for major projects, including the Geological Service for Europe project and PanAfGeo+
- Work closely with the EGS Communications Officer to build a strong communications team with close links to external projects and partners
- Build strong relationships with EGS members, partners, and stakeholders, including internationally
- Identify communications opportunities and synergies and work with the Secretariat, EGS community, and partners to capitalise on these
- Craft compelling and consistent narrative-based messaging and content across communication channels, in coordination with the EGS Communications Officer
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the media, overseeing the organisation’s media presence including content creation, community management, and engagement
Required Skills and Experience
Applicants should ideally hold the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Minimum Master degree in Communications or a related field, or in a natural science with extensive experience working in Communications.
- Proven experience and track record in strategic communications, at a senior level, developing original, engaging communication strategies and solutions
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and persuade
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication in English, and French will be an asset
- Proficiency across social media platforms, content management systems, and relevant software, ideally including competence in graphic design
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Excellent teamwork skills, work ethic, attention to detail, and integrity
- Ability to work independently, proactively, and under pressure in a fast-paced, international environment and across the full scope of communications activities – from high-level strategic planning to implementation of day-to-day tasks
- Understanding and experience of the functions of the EU institutions preferred
- Willingness to travel within Europe and abroad
