The European Builders Confederation (EBC) is the association representing crafts, micro companies, and SMEs in the construction sector across Europe. EBC champions a more inclusive, sustainable, and digital construction sector and built environment. Based in Brussels, our young and multicultural team is looking for a motivated Social Affairs Officer.

Main tasks

  • Lead EBC’s activities in social affairs and social dialogue by advocating towards EU institutions;
  • Monitor, analyse and evaluate EU social legislation impacting the construction sector;
  • Actively support the commitments of EBC in EU-funded projects related to social aspects;
  • Draft position papers, briefings, strategies, and consultation responses;
  • Act as a liaison for EBC’s social portfolio, supporting national members and consulting external experts;
  • Represent EBC in Brussels and abroad, attending and speaking at workshops and conferences;
  • Assist with communication activities, including writing articles, preparing presentations, or posting in social media, and events organisation;
  • Support administrative tasks within the Secretariat’s daily work.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in public affairs, EU policy, and advocacy;
  • Strong interest in EU affairs, with knowledge of labour and internal market issues; social dialogue; skills and training; health & safety; and/or housing;
  • Experience with EU-funded projects (Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, LIFE, SMP) is an asset;
  • Knowledge/willingness to learn on the role of SMEs in construction and the European society;
  • Fluency in English; additional languages (German, French, Italian) are a plus;
  • Excellent networking, communication, and digital skills (Microsoft Office);
  • A small team-oriented attitude and the ability to manage multiple tasks and show commitment;
  • Familiarity with the Brussels working environment would be ideal: experience in EU-level or membership organisations will be considered an asset.
