MedTech Europe is the European trade association for the medical technology industry including diagnostics, medical devices, and digital health. Our members are national, European and multinational companies as well as a network of national medical technology associations who research, develop, manufacture, distribute and supply health-related technologies, services, and solutions.
More than 33,000 companies in Europe produce more than 500,000 medical technologies that share a common purpose: improving, extending and transforming people's lives. With more than 14,000 patents filed annually, the medical technology industry is the most innovative industry in Europe.
Since 2019, MedTech Europe and its members are heavily investing into European collaborative research initiatives like the Innovative Health Initiative. It is a new journey for the MedTech sector that requires a strong investment from our members and from MedTech Europe to inform, educate, accompany and guide companies.

Job Description
Reports to: Sophie Koettlitz, Research &Innovation Manager
Close cooperation with:
· Internally: Research & Innovation Manager, Communications Manager and Senior Adviser Value & Innovation-based Access
· Externally: Other life sciences industry associations operating in Brussels (EFPIA, COCIR, EuropaBio)
· European Commission (especially the DG RTD)
· IHI Office
The Intern will contribute to the activities of the MedTech Europe Research and Innovation team to support the execution of MedTech Europe’s R&I strategy. The intern will also support on an ad-hoc basis the activities required for the Procurement group as well as the secretariat of the Value-Based Procurement Community of Practice (e.g. online sessions, conference, meetings, website, distribution lists,...).
Responsibilities
· Monitoring Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) and other EU R&I funding programmes and identify relevant EU R&I programmes/partnerships/missions suitable for medical technology companies.
o Monitor open calls/tenders in these initiatives.
o Identify the participation of MedTech Europe members in these EU programmes/partnerships/missions; maintain an updated list of MedTech Europe members participating in these programmes.
o Maintain (internal) forward looking calendar of events for forthcoming IHI calls and call-related events
· Identifying and maintain updated list of successful consultancies in IHI and Horizon Europe proposal writing and project management
· Identifying potential organisations of interest (whether as members, or partners in research)
· Identifying events that may be of interest to the MedTech Europe R&I team, R&I Committee members, etc.; maintaining a forward-looking calendar of events
· Attending and supporting meetings with MedTech Europe members (e.g. R&I committee, Procurement WG, …), the European Commission, the IHI Office, and other life sciences industry associations operating in Brussels
· Producing communications tools and communication materials in collaboration with the MedTech Europe’s Communications team
· Writing articles for the internal and external newsletters
· Organising internal meetings with members (in-person and remote) and external events
· Taking minutes of some internal and external meetings
· Updating the IHI and R&I sections on MedTech Europe website and intranet
Must-haves
· Bachelor or higher-level education in social/political/economic sciences, European Affairs with an interest in science/technology
· Fluency in both oral and written English
· Analytical mindset, ability to carry out research and present results effectively both in written and orally
· Reactiveness, ability to work independently and take initiatives
· Eye for detail, stress resistance, and a positive attitude
· Competences in standard Windows, MS Office applications and SharePoint
· Interest in medical technologies/healthcare and Research & Innovation
· Is eligible to work as a trainee in Belgium
Nice-to-haves
· Familiarity with the EU R&I landscape, especially the Horizon Europe programme
· Previous work experience in EU-related organisations
· Experience with policy monitoring and briefing skills
· Knowledge of another EU language
