Regulatory Affairs Manager – Industrial Biotechnology
EuropaBio, the voice of Europe’s dynamic biotech industry, is currently seeking a motivated Regulatory Affairs Manager (Industrial Biotechnology) to join its Brussels-based team on an indefinite period contract.
Industrial Biotech is one of Europe’s strengths in making a transition towards a more sustainable future across many industrial sectors such as chemicals, plastics, fuels, textiles, cosmetics, or home care products, which have been traditionally sourced from fossil carbon.
Biotechnology has unprecedented visibility and recognition within the political landscape for the current Commission and European Parliament. The foreseen Biotech Act plus increased focus on competitiveness from a strategically critical technology means that EuropaBio is at the forefront of shaping Europe’s biotechnology future across sectors.
The Manager role is the opportunity for an ambitious and engaged applicant to help lead development of regulatory frameworks for industrial biotechnology and contribute as part of a dynamic larger team in delivering the EU Biotech Act. Europabio welcomes applications from people who have represented sectors including food, feed, chemicals, fermentation process and products etc. and where biomanufacturing plays a role. They will have the opportunity to work with companies from next generation start ups through to global leaders in biomanufacturing and innovation, in addition to national biotechnology associations who drive development of national ecosystems.
The successful applicant will work from our offices on Avenue des Arts, in the heart of the EU district. They will work closely with industry experts within a small and dynamic multinational team under the supervision of the Industrial Biotech Director. The role will entail actively working with members on topics ranging from regulatory development to policy analysis, involvement in priority work areas for EuropaBio Industrial Biotechnology, the newly announced Biotech Act and initiatives, as well as New Genomic Techniques legislation. The manager will represent EuropaBio in diverse forums and help build the association growth.
The role includes:
- Lead activities linked to regulatory frameworks for industrial biotechnology across sectors and liaise directly as a stakeholder to EFSA
- Act as primary contact point for regulatory matters within EuropaBio and across the Brussels association landscape
- Actively engage EuropaBio’s members in identification of priorities and contribute to the development and implementation of the strategy / yearly action plan of EuropaBio’s Industrial Biotech Council.
- Manage relevant EuropaBio working groups and assist in the management of associations joint working groups & coalition, including the organisation of internal and external meetings and following up actions (policy position; responses to consultations);
- Be an active contributor to EuropaBio’s work related to the Biotech Act and other cross-cutting initiatives
- Represent EuropaBio’s members at external meetings, events and conferences
- Support the organisation of EuropaBio external events relevant to the Industrial Biotech Council strategy in cooperation with Director and the wider EuropaBio team
- Develop a network of long-term relationships with stakeholders of relevance for EuropaBio’s field of activity.
- Manage and onboard interns and other junior staff members within the team.
Profile:
- Must have full permission to work in Belgium.
- Graduated in EU affairs, regulatory affairs, political science, law or other area relevant to Industrial Biotechnology.
- Must be a strong communicator and team player, able to work with EuropaBio teams to deliver high profile activities.
- Should have experience of regulatory frameworks in Europe, particularly EFSA, ideally with experience in working from an industry perspective, either directly or indirectly.
- Proven practical knowledge of European and/or national policymaking, acquired during at least 4 years working experience in European institutions, companies, industry associations, or in consultancy firms, preferably with direct contact to European institutions and/or EU stakeholders.
- Will suit someone interesting in contributing to association development and activities across members and EuropaBio Councils,
- Should have a desire to grow through working with the EuropaBio team to propose and help lead activities and representing the Association to potential Members,
- Fluent written and spoken English (working language); additional EU languages are a plus.
- Able to begin as soon as possible.

The offer:
- A permanent, full-time contract working 40 hours per week.
- Working hours are from 09:00 until 18:00 Monday – Friday.
- Salary scale for the role is 4.300€ - 5.399€ gross per month.
