Are you passionate about fighting climate change, shaping progressive environmental policies, and driving meaningful change in Europe? Join the Party of European Socialists (PES) and be at the forefront of creating a more sustainable and just future. We are looking for a Policy Assistant to help shape policies on energy, environment, and climate change that will impact millions of lives across the EU.

About the PES

The Party of European Socialists (PES) brings together the Socialist, Social Democratic and Labour Parties of the EU. The PES is our common platform, where our members come together: activists, party executives, Secretary Generals, Leaders, youth organisations, MPs, MEPs, European Commissioners, Ministers and Prime-Ministers of socialist, social-democratic, labour and democratic parties and organisations within Europe. We also exchange best practices and engage in political campaigning. Our main aim is to support our member parties and organisations. The PES acts as an important network organization for our member parties by providing policy advice, assistance and organization of EU-related events.

Your Mission

As a Policy Assistant in our dynamic EU Policy Unit, you'll be responsible for key areas such as:

  • Environmental & Climate Change Policies: Analyze and propose bold, innovative solutions for climate and environmental challenges.
  • Energy & Transport Policies: Drive clean, sustainable energy transitions and transportation systems for a greener Europe.
  • Agriculture Policies: Help create sustainable, forward-thinking agriculture models that benefit people and the planet.

Job description

Develop PES policies on the policy areas:

  • Stay ahead of policy trends, propose strategic actions, and work with communications to spread the message.
  • Draft policy documents, speeches, briefings, and more, directly shaping the conversation on critical global issues.
  • Connect with influential leaders, stakeholders, and partners to build powerful networks that move the needle on climate and social justice.
    • Building networks and organizing meetings relevant to the policy areas, such as:
      • Ministerial meetings
      • Thematic network for experts from our members and partners
    • Other tasks or policy areas depending on the evolution of needs.

What You Bring

  • A strong commitment to climate action and social justice.
  • A degree in environmental studies, political science, public policy, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in policy, research, or related roles, ideally within a political or advocacy organization.
  • A commitment to the core values and objectives of the PES
  • A very good understanding of political dynamics and of political parties. Experience in a political structure would be an asset.
  • You are a savvy communicator with advanced writing and analytical skills.
  • A deep understanding of the EU and international political landscape.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other EU language.
  • A collaborative team player who loves working in diverse, cross-functional teams.

What we Offer

  • Be a Changemaker: You’ll be at the heart of shaping transformative policies for Europe’s future.
  • Work-Life Balance: We value flexibility and offer a full-time (38h/week) contract based in Brussels with excellent public transport links.
  • Dynamic Environment: Our office is a melting pot of ideas and cultures, located in the vibrant European Quarter.
  • Professional Growth: Gain hands-on experience in EU policymaking, attend exciting high-level events, and network with European leaders.
  • An interesting salary package: including meal-vouchers, hospitalization insurance, pension fund and full public transport reimbursement.
