The Institute for sustainable development and international relations (IDDRI) is an independent institute at the interface between research and decision-making, which investigates sustainable development issues requiring global coordination, such as climate change and the erosion of natural resources. IDDRI’s mission is threefold: informing decision-making; identifying tomorrow’s key issues; and providing a forum for dialogue between stakeholders with often divergent interests. To fulfil this mission, IDDRI clarifies the issues, brings together the players involved, and thus facilitates a shared understanding of the challenges (www.iddri.org).

 

In 2025, IDDRI will have a staff of around 50, including more than 30 multidisciplinary researchers (economists, lawyers, political scientists, geographers, etc.), and will be working with a large network of think tanks and partners around the world. 

 

 

The New Industrial Policies Program studies ways of implementing industrial transition policies that reduce the environmental footprint of economic activities, promote the circular economy and guarantee a just transition. The program’s work aims to contribute to the development of sustainable industrial strategies at European and international level, by producing analyses of public policies and their environmental, economic and social impacts, and by leading multi-stakeholder dialogues on the challenges of European industrial transition.

 

The aim of IDDRI’s activities in this area is to identify the elements of an industrial strategy compatible with the European Union’s sustainability targets. Particular attention is paid to demand-side policies (circular economy, material and energy efficiency and sufficiency), to distributive and social issues, particularly in the context of declining fossil fuel-based industries, and to the question of adapting international trade to the industrial transition.

 

As part of these activities, the New Industrial Policies team mobilizes its network of research partners and think tanks in Europe and works closely with IDDRI researchers interested in other geographical scales (multilateral environmental negotiations, governance of sustainable development, Deep Decarbonization Pathways initiative).

 

Under the supervision of the director of the New Industrial Policies Program and in dialogue with the whole IDDRI team, the researcher will support the definition of the European industrial strategy. She or he will contribute to:
