About Global
Global Counsel (GC) is a strategic advisory business. We help companies and investors across a wide range of sectors to anticipate the ways in which politics, regulation and public policy making create both risk and opportunity—and to develop and implement strategies to meet these challenges. Our team has experience in politics and policy making in national governments and international institutions, backed with deep regional and local knowledge.
Our global team operates across Berlin, Brussels, Doha, London, Paris, Singapore and Washington DC and is supported by a network of policy makers, businesses and advisers.
Overview
We are seeking an experienced advisor to support our Financial Services practice with EU institutional relations and client-facing work. Reporting to a newly appointed Brussels-based Director for financial services in Europe, the role will involve working across traditional finance—asset management, banking, capital markets, insurance, market infrastructure, pensions and retail investment—and fintech, supporting clients ranging from global institutions to start-ups and investors. It will focus on political, policy and regulatory issues at both the EU and member state levels.
The successful candidate will have direct policy making experience in the EU institutions or a member state representation as well as an appetite for developing knowledge and skills in a fast-paced working environment. The role will be based in our Brussels office working as part of an integrated practice with colleagues in Berlin, Paris and London as well as other key markets.
Responsibilities
- Drive and maintain relationships with the EU institutions in Brussels and with member state capitals to build GC’s reputation as an expert source of strategic counsel.

- Provide insight on political, policy and regulatory developments relating to the financial services agenda to clients seeking to respond to, and engage in, the policy- and decision-making processes in the EU and member states.
- Work with clients to plan and script evidence-based narratives with key stakeholders, including where creative responses to new policy proposals are needed.
- Support design and deliver workshops, events and thought leadership for GC and for clients on specific policy areas (e.g. investment in Europe, access to finance, evolution of financial markets business models etc).
- Produce original written content, including policy papers, published blogs, progress reports and marketing material.
Requirements
- At least five years’ experience working for an EU institution, government, regulator, think tank and/or trade association.
- Experience of effective engagement with the EU institutions and member state representations as well as with businesses and think tanks.
- Experience of producing high quality, concise, written analysis.
- Experience of providing high-quality advice.
- Project-management and organisational skills, with the ability to handle concurrent tasks effectively, manage short- and long-term assignments, independently lead projects and respond to changing client needs.
