About the Role
The Consultant will support IAM-I, strengthening the Secretariat’s capacity and support the association’s growing activities.
The role will primarily focus on EU policy monitoring, analysis, and advocacy, with a strong link to research & innovation, advanced materials, and EU funding frameworks.
The position will complement the existing Secretariat team and contribute to strategic, policy, and project-related activities, while working closely with the IAM-I Secretary General and governance bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Policy monitoring, analysis, and advocacy
- Monitor and analyse EU policies, initiatives, and funding programmes relevant to IAM-I, with a particular focus on:
- EU research and innovation policy;
- industrial and technology-related initiatives;
- advanced materials;
- the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and related funding instruments.
- Prepare concise policy analyses, briefings, and updates for the IAM-I Secretariat, Executive Board, and members.
- Present policy developments and implications during meetings, webinars, and working group discussions.
- Support the IAM-I Secretary General in strategic policy and advocacy work, including drafting position papers, statements, and strategic inputs.
Stakeholder engagement and consensus building
- Support the preparation and organisation of advocacy meetings with EU institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, Member States).
- Contribute to the development of IAM-I’s advocacy strategy and messaging.
- Facilitate consensus-building among members on policy priorities and positions in a member-driven association context.
Project and organisational support
- Depending on experience and background, support project management tasks, including activities related to Horizon Europe and other EU-funded projects.
- Contribute to the preparation and organisation of IAM-I meetings, events, task forces, and working groups, in coordination with the Secretariat team.
- Provide flexible support across a range of topics, in line with the evolving needs of the association.
Profile and Skills
- Strong focus on policy and advocacy, combined with a general technical or scientific background.
- Proven experience working in Brussels-based associations or a similar EU policy environment.
- Solid understanding of EU institutions, policymaking processes, and funding mechanisms.
- Experience in project management; experience with EU-funded projects is an asset.
- Ideally a technology or science background, particularly relevant to advanced materials or R&I.
- Senior enough to take responsibility for a defined policy or activity area and work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Flexible and adaptable working mode, comfortable covering a broad range of topics in a small Secretariat team.
- Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
- Fluency in English; additional EU languages are an asset.
