Ahead of the second round of the Presidential Elections in Cyprus, the political group of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left expresses its support to Stavros Malas and the forces rallying around his candidature and its solidarity to the Cypriot people.

The policies and proposals presented by Stavros Malas aim at promoting development and standing against austerity and privatisation of the country's public wealth; at defending the gains of the working people and against deregulation of labour relations;
at defending the rights of the youth and women against cuts in the education and health sector. In face of  the economic crisis and the external pressures of Cyprus, such policies form a defending shield around the working people and the most vulnerable of society.

Stavros Malas has firmly stated his clear positions for a just solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the UN Resolutions and in favour of all Cypriots and for peace in the whole region of the Eastern Mediterranean.
