Internship – Projects and Policy (CISL Belgium)
Location: Brussels
Fixed-term role (6 months)
We have an exciting opportunity at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) in our EU office as a projects and policy intern. Join our dynamic team working on EU climate, energy and industrial policy, engaging with progressive businesses and European policy makers, in a fast-paced environment. Our mission is to support the transition to a sustainable and climate neutral economy, through the development of ambitious and effective policies.
This role sits within our CISL Europe office, which works at EU, member state and international levels to deliver influential projects that include Corporate Leaders Group Europe, the We Mean Business Coalition, the EU Green Growth Partnership, and a group of national business networks.
We are interested in an individual who is seeking to develop experience on how to support advocacy related outputs and projects, with a good understanding of EU policies and decision making. This is a great opportunity for somebody who is looking to understand how business and financial institutions are engaging on climate, nature and industry policy and how to support action to deliver a sustainable economy.
The role entails the following:
- Working alongside the team, monitoring climate, energy, nature, industry, circular economy, finance and sustainability policy developments at EU level.
- Drafting of regular EU policy updates for key partners and supporting with briefings and taking minutes.
- Carrying out desk research and analysis on several policy areas (e.g. Clean Industry Deal, MFF and Sustainable Finance, Climate Law) and supporting with the production of the output (referencing, summaries). ).
- Supporting the organisation of high-level events and meetings.
- Supporting outreach to key stakeholders such as policymakers, businesses, and NGOs on policy advocacy.
- Supporting team administration duties such as regularly updating databases, organisation of team meetings and preparation of mappings.
Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work and will be expected to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Ability to draft clear and concise summary updates of relevant policy developments, documents and meeting notes.
- Understanding of climate and sustainability issues and the European policy making process. Strong analytical skills with great attention to detail.
- Evidence of strong written, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative, be flexible and manage competing priorities.
- Team-minded, flexible and with a consensual approach and able to work well in a small team.
- Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Qualified to at least degree level or equivalent.
The following attributes are desirable:
- Understanding and experience of the business sector.
- Understanding of the sustainable finance landscape
- Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research in the field of European politics, public policy, economics or similar.
- Internship or experience in a European institution or on EU policy.
- Additional European language skills.
The team has an office in Brussels with a mix of physical presence at the office and teleworking during the week.
This post is fixed-term for a period of 6 months and the contract will fall under the terms for a paid Brussels “Convention d’immersion professionnelle – Professional immersion agreement”.
