The Left in the European Parliament is seeking to recruit a social media community manager.

The Left in the European Parliament brings together MEPs from a range of European left and progressive parties - ecological, socialist, feminist, communist and independent. In virtually all policy areas, it argues against the mainstream neoliberal prescriptions for the EU and is focussed on presenting progressive policy alternatives. Staff should be comfortable and experienced in this environment and both capable of, and motivated to, proactively promoting our objectives.

ABOUT THE ROLE
- The successful candidate will contribute to the dissemination of our social media content,and foster online debate around a range of policy areas.
- They will be able to convert political positions into clear messages, foster engagementwith allies, influencers and civil society, raising awareness of Left perspectives among various audiences depending on the platform.
- They will be able to deliver effective planning and organisation of all facets of social media outreach.
- They will have a strong grasp of EU politics, and the diverse tactics needed to ensure exposure for Left’s MEPs and issues.
- They will work with Left MEPs, policy advisers, and the rest of the communications team to influence social media debate and public opinion on EU policy making.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create, write and edit content for social media
- Develop and implement targeted online strategies to promote our positions
- Monitor, engage with and moderate comments, messages, and discussions,
- representing the Left’s perspective.
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to pitch innovative ideas and initiatives
- Recognise social media opportunities, analyse audience behaviour and act to increase
- impact
- Generate reports with actionable insights to optimise strategy.
- Foster and sustain relationships with key influencers
- Organise, promote, and moderate live social media discussions and groups
- Tailor strategies for different platforms
- Monitor channels to build a community, handling questions and increasing
- engagement
- Represent the political perspective of the group when engaging with the audience
- Enlarge The Left’s presence and audience on different social media platforms
- Research and potentially develop presence on new platforms
PROFILE & REQUIREMENTS
- Political affinity and passion for left-wing political values
- Preferably 3 years’ experience working in a fast-paced communications environment or equivalent
- Extensive knowledge of social media analytics, metrics and other online marketing tool
- Ability to analyse social media insights and adapt communication strategies to boost engagement.
- Experience with audio-video material
- Extensive knowledge of EU policy debates from a Left perspective
- Enthusiasm for teamwork and positive collaboration with colleagues
- Creativity, resourcefulness, and professionalism with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and one more language from the Left’s delegations
- Visual culture and design skills with knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is an asset
GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION
The selection procedure is open to any candidate provided they fulfil the following conditions:
Under article 82, (3) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants (CEOS) of the European Communities you must also: be a national of a Member State of the European Union and entitled to your full rights as citizen; have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the laws concerning military service; produce the appropriate references/certificates for performance of the duties.
PRACTICAL DETAILS
Position to be filled ideally end of April 2025.
The initial contract will be for a year, renewable until the end of the term (30/06/2029).
You will be based in Brussels with possible regular international travel and work in unusual hours.
The successful candidate will be recruited as Function group III depending on years of experience. Salary and allowances, under the EU institutions system, depend on experience, country of origin and family situation.
Basic gross monthly salary is €3.335,95 (for less than 5 years of experience, allowances not included).
