Accredited Parliamentary Assistant (APA) – ITRE Committee Advisor

Office of MEP Sigrid Friis – Brussels, European Parliament

Location: Brussels, European Parliament (travel to Strasbourg ~1 week every other month)
Start date: 01/10/2025
Contract: Full-time

About the position:

MEP Sigrid Friis (Radikale Venstre / Renew Europe) is looking for a committed, energetic, and competent adviser to join her team in Brussels. You will be the lead adviser on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), where Sigrid works to accelerate the climate agenda across the EU. You will play a key role in shaping green policies that advance Europe’s green transition, strengthen competitiveness, and future-proof our energy systems.

This position is a unique opportunity to work on the green transition at the heart of the EU’s decision-making process and to be closely involved in strategic policy development and legislative work. You will have both strategic responsibility and strong opportunities for professional growth in a fast-paced and positive team environment. The office consists of three other advisers, each with their own expertise and portfolio, but the success of the team and the good working atmosphere depend on everyone being willing to contribute across tasks and support each other when needed.

You will also play a key role in ensuring close coordination with Radikale Venstre in the Danish Parliament and its advisers to maintain a strong link between the Parliament and the European Parliament, ensure policy alignment, and communicate effectively about the legislative work.

Sigrid Friis was elected for Radikale Venstre, a party that for 120 years has led the way in championing progressive policies rooted in a social-liberal balance. This is also the foundation for her European work, where Sigrid is committed to a greener, freer, and more united Europe - and to ensuring that legislation reflects the values that have characterised Radikale Venstre for generations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing political analysis and advice on energy and industrial policy, with a focus on long-term sustainability in the ITRE Committee.
  • Drafting amendments, briefings, voting recommendations, and speaking notes that are accurate and politically well-grounded.
  • Closely following legislative developments and identifying opportunities and risks in good time.
  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with stakeholders across institutions, Member States, and civil society — including the Renew Europe secretariat, committee secretariat, Danish stakeholders, and subject matter experts.
  • Coordinating and organizing strategic meetings, roundtables, and events — both in Brussels and online.
  • Preparing Sigrid’s work in the committee, negotiations, and meetings with discretion and a strong sense of overview.
  • Contributing to internal team planning and ensuring your work aligns with the office’s overall political and strategic goals.
  • Working closely with Radikale Venstre’s advisers in the Danish Parliament to ensure political alignment and coordination.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Has solid knowledge of the EU’s energy and industrial policy — ideally with experience from the European Parliament, the Commission, or relevant interest organisations.
  • Has a strong understanding of the EU legislative process and can act with political sensitivity.
  • Can maintain strategic focus and ensure that Sigrid spends her time on the right priorities.
  • Is fluent in English and has excellent written communication skills.
  • Is a team player who thrives in a small and busy office and knows when to lead and when to support.
  • Has an eye for both the big picture and the details, and works in a structured and precise manner.
  • Is curious, proactive, and not afraid to ask questions or challenge conventional thinking.
  • Remains calm and focused under pressure and is motivated by delivering results that contribute to the shared European project.

Eligibility:

  • You must meet the criteria to be employed as an Accredited Parliamentary Assistant (APA) in the European Parliament — meaning you must have EU citizenship or a valid work permit.
  • You must hold a relevant master’s degree or equivalent.
