
Policy Officer
CEDEC is hiring a strong personality and eager team player with a first experience in European politics and policies, preferably in a European association, to support us in delivering CEDEC’s strategy and to facilitate members’ engagement in our initiatives.
Who is CEDEC?
In full support of the energy transition, striving for sustainable, secure and affordable energy solutions close to citizens and customers, CEDEC represents the interests of 2000 local and regional companies – mainly with local authorities as shareholders - active in every part of the energy value chain for electricity, gas and heating & cooling (local generation, grids, supply), and in the local broadband sector, serving in total 100 million customers & connections.
CEDEC has been successfully advocating since 1992 the interests of local energy providers towards decision-makers and stakeholders in European Union policy-making processes. This long-standing involvement in the development of EU energy and climate legislation has resulted in outstanding internal capacities of policy analysis and strategy implementation. The open communication and trusted cooperation with members’ company experts and national association representatives have proven to be key success factors that allow us to translate their business challenges in strong and shared EU positioning.
In search of a motivated Policy Officer
The ideal candidate will contribute to strengthen an extensive network among local and regional energy companies throughout Europe, and support our constructive relations with European institutions and organizations. The objective is to connect the ambitions and interests of member companies and their local shareholders with all actors involved in the policy-making processes at EU level (European institutions, regulatory authorities, related EU associations).
This will be made concrete as follows:
- follow up the latest EU energy and climate policy developments;
- analyse relevant policy elements in the light of members’ potential interests;
- collect and coordinate members’ positions on diverse technical, legal and business topics;
- draft policy position papers;
- translate technical/legal positions in convincing storylines;
- prepare and follow-up on internal working groups, in close cooperation with member companies;
- represent the association in external European expert groups;
- draft newsletters and topical policy updates to members;
- ensure streamlined communication on website, social media (LinkedIn) and other channels.
Required qualifications
- Preferably at least 2 years of relevant experience in energy topics at EU level, having knowledge of the EU regulatory processes;
- Master’s degree, preferably in European law, economics, political sciences or in energy related domains;
- Fluent written and oral English, other EU languages are definitely a strong asset;
- Open-minded & balanced personality, ready to contribute proactively to a small but dynamic team;
- Strong interpersonal skills, with sense of diplomacy to manage the relationships between persons and associations in a European environment;
- Supporter of local and public initiatives in the energy sector;
- Taking initiative, a team player and able to deliver high-quality work on time in challenging deadlines;
- Sense of humour.
