EP – The European Parliament
What is the European Parliament and how does it help European citizens?
The European Parliament is one of the main institutions of the European Union, formed by members of the European Parliament (MEPs) who are directly elected by voters in all of the Member States. Don’t know who your MEP is? Search the map on The European Parliament website to find out.
What’s in it for YOUth?
Among the many policies covered by the Parliament, MEPs also focus on European youth.
Want to hear what topics relevant to you are being discussed at the Parliament and how young Europeans think their MEPs can help them? See Euractiv’s video debates with MEPs and video interviews with young Europeans to discover what they think the future holds for young people across the EU. You can also follow what your MEP is saying on social media on the EP’s Newshub. |
At the Parliament’s bi-annual European Youth Event in Strasbourg, thousands of young Europeans make their voices heard. Have a look at the EYE2016 video to see all activities and who took part.
The European Parliament isn’t just about European politics.
Did you know that the European Parliament champions European culture and excellence in all fields of activity? This is why it has launched several initiatives to promote European arts and cultural activities. Watch, debate and vote on award winning European films that have been nominated for the Parliament’s Lux Film Prize. |
Readers may also wish to check out the European Parliament’s list “100 Books on Europe to Remember” to discover the history and evolution of our continent and the European Union.
The Parliament also supports democracy and human rights all over the world. This is why every year it awards the Sakharov Prize to celebrate and support individuals who have made outstanding contribution to spread these values. Don’t know who Sakharov was but remember prize-winner Malala, the youngest ever prize-winner? Check out this link to find out more. |
