Manager Climate Change Mitigation in Agrifood Value Chains (f/m/d)
Food, agriculture and forestry have a major role to play in mitigating climate change and helping achieve other EU-wide sustainability objectives. Agora Agriculture, an independent think tank founded in 2022, aims to contribute to an evidence-based and solutions-oriented debate about the future of these sectors. Our contributions are grounded in scientific evidence and developed in close consultation with stakeholders across the food system and bioeconomy, scientists, policymakers and civil society.
We are a team of about 18 people led by Dr. Christine Chemnitz and Prof. Dr. Harald Grethe and are part of Agora Think Tanks gGmbH, which also includes Agora Energiewende and Agora Industrie. We are based in Berlin with an office in Brussels. While Germany is our primary focus, we pursue a strong European dimension to our work, which we seek to further enhance through this job opening.
To strengthen our team and support the development and implementation of a programme aimed at mitigating methane emissions from the agrifood system, we are looking for a Manager Climate Change Mitigation in Agrifood Value Chains (f/m/d) part-time or full-time (min. 30 hours per week), based in Brussels.
Your responsibilities include:
→ Coordinating and managing a project focused on mitigating methane emissions from the agrifood system covering several thematic areas and European countries;
→ Taking a managing role in implementing one of the project’s workstreams focused on the development of a harmonised data collection and reporting system for greenhouse gas emissions across the agrifood value chain;
→ Conducting research and analysis, and produce high-quality written outputs, including policy briefs and reports;
→ Engaging in regular and in-depth exchange with relevant stakeholders, including representatives from the agricultural sector, the food industry, policy makers, financial institutions, researchers, and partner think tanks across several European countries;
→ Conceptualising and organising expert roundtables and discussions;
→ Active participation in the overall strategy development of Agora Agriculture.
We are looking for:
→ A strong motivation to support a viable and sustainable European agrifood sector;
→ A Master's degree (or equivalent) in sustainable business, economics, agricultural sciences, finance or a related field;
→ At least 4 years of relevant professional experience, e.g. in science, consultancy, business, public administration, or policy;
→ A solid understanding of greenhouse gas emissions accounting in the agrifood sector;
→ A good understanding of the functioning of agrifood value chains;
→ Knowledge of sustainable finance is an advantage;
→ Proven organisational, project management, and networking skills, with enthusiasm for working cooperatively in diverse, international teams;
→ Demonstrated ability to conduct complex analyses and produce high-quality written outputs;
→ Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; knowledge of German is an advantage.
We offer you:
→ An opportunity to work in a mission-driven, highly motivated, and professional team;
→ The ability to closely engage with key stakeholders and policy processes at national and European level;
→ Diverse experiences including professional relationships with colleagues and experts from a variety of countries around the globe, and working with important policy processes at national, regional, and international level;
→ A cooperative work atmosphere with a flat communication and decision-making style;
→ A hybrid work environment, with access to an attractive office space in Brussels or Berlin and a good setup to work from home;
→ Opportunities for professional growth and advancement; including access to a mental well-being platform;
→ Assistance with the visa process for international candidates;
→ Entitlement to a number of paid leave days significantly higher than the statutory entitlement;
→ A full or part-time role with an unlimited employment duration.
We assume that there are excellent candidates for the job who do not meet all the criteria in the description. Please feel invited to apply for the position even if you do not fulfil all criteria mentioned above.
