Brief

Climate Change is one of the greatest challenges of our time and the ability to capture, transport and store or utilise carbon dioxide will be crucial to ensure a sustainable, competitive and equitable transition to a low-carbon economy.

The CCSA is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and politically astute EU Director to represent the CCSA in Brussels and lead the EU team of experts across policy, external affairs, event and membership services This position will play a pivotal role in leading and shaping policy development and advocacy and communicating the needs to industry at the most senior political and media levels, managing stakeholder relationships, and forging strategic partnerships to advance the CCUS industry.

This is a stretching role for a committed and driven individual with a strong interest and experience in CCUS and policy in the climate change sector. The postholder will need to be highly flexible to prioritise where their input will add most value in a dynamic political landscape, and highly collaborative to work effectively both within the team and across a wide range of stakeholders.

The European Green Deal continues to be a cornerstone of the next European Commission and with President von der Leyen’s re-election, the target of 90 percent greenhouse gas reductions by 2040 is expected to be pushed by the new Commission, which took the helm in December 2024 This undoubtedly means that CCUS technologies will come to the forefront. The Industrial Carbon Management Strategy (from February 2024) foresees a large role for CCUS to reach climate neutrality with approximately 450 million tonnes of CO2 to be captured by 2050 under the European Commission modelling. The Clean Industrial Deal, promised in the first 100 days, should include investments in renewables and low-carbon technologies, grid infrastructure, storage capacity, and transport infrastructure for captured CO2 and will help create lead markets and accelerate planning, tendering, and permitting.

With some Member States already progressing on national carbon industrial carbon management strategies and key CCUS projects already underway across Europe, there is huge opportunity for the industry to expand at scale. The CCUS industry is global and many of our members are actively developing projects in the power, industrial, hydrogen, fuels and carbon dioxide removals sectors all around the world, but still see Europe as a significant opportunity for successful CCUS projects and clusters.

Who are we?
