Post title: Campaigns and Advocacy Manager
Location: Remote working, ideally based in Brussels to support EU-Brussels political advocacy. Note that the ability to occasionally travel and work across Europe/the globe (to attend team meetings in the UK and other ad hoc meetings/conferences in Europe) will be required.
Part time: 3 days per week.

Responsible to: Strategy Director for campaigns and general advocacy, and the Director General for political advocacy

Job description
 
Main purpose of role:
We are looking for a manager with at least 5 years’ relevant experience to lead on our campaigns and advocacy work in close coordination with the Parkinson’s Europe team. A key aspect of this role will be managing our political advocacy activities in EU-Brussels, supported by our Director
General.
  • General advocacy/campaigning: supporting Parkinson’s Europe’s campaigning and general advocacy work, including the annual World Parkinson’s Day activities, as well as other ongoing initiatives that support our strategic objectives.
  • Political advocacy and policy: developing and leading Parkinson’s Europe’s political advocacy engagement plan; supporting our engagement with European bodies including the European Union, European Patient Forum (EPF), European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA); and supporting Parkinson’s Europe’s Member Organisations in their national and European-level advocacy work.
 
Key tasks
  • Develop and deliver Parkinson’s Europe’s political advocacy strategy, with guidance from the Director General and our Advocacy and Campaigns working group.
  • Manage Parkinson’s Europe’s Advocacy and Campaigns working group and Advocacy Industry Forum. This includes organising meeting logistics, planning agendas and leading the meetings.
  • Mapping and engaging with EU officials (Commission, Parliament and Member State representatives) to increase the visibility of Parkinson’s with EU-level decision makers.
  • Leading the development of a Parkinson’s Special Interest Group in Brussels.
  • Regular monitoring of political activity and intelligence directly related to the key dossiers
  • Help build, maintain and strengthen Parkinson’s Europe’s relationships with external stakeholders that are relevant to our strategic plans – in particular to foster active relationships with several important organisations including the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) and the European Brain Council (EPF).
  • Review and prepare responses to consultations relating to patient advocacy and political campaigning.
  • Draft briefings, position papers and official statements relating to Parkinson’s Europe’s advocacy efforts.
  • Assist Parkinson’s Europe’s engagement and communications with the EU, national governments, multilateral bodies and civil society partners.
  • Work with Parkinson’s Europe’s Communications Manager to translate and align our policy and advocacy work to our communication portfolio, through the development of social media posts, e-shots, podcasts, emails or other relevant communication mediums.
  • Assist in the development of toolkits, press releases, political advocacy web pages and other resources where relevant.
  • In addition to the Advocacy and Campaign working group meetings, support other political advocacy face-to-face and virtual meetings.
  • Lead Parkinson’s Europe political advocacy campaigns (for example, our glyphosate campaign) and general advocacy campaigns (such as World Parkinson’s Day).
  • Support the development of a pool of Parkinson’s Europe campaign and advocacy volunteers.
  • Provide quarterly campaign/general advocacy/political advocacy reports/updates to the Parkinson’s Europe Board and Member Organisations.
 
Person specification
  • Patient advocacy experience and with an interest in the issues that impact people affected by Parkinson’s
  • EU-Brussels political advocacy and lobbying experience
  • Experience in running online awareness campaigns
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills – you will be able to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including decision makers, treatment industry partners, healthcare professionals, patient groups, patients, carers and their families, and volunteers.
  • Confident public speaker
  • Team player who is also self motivated, and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Highly proficient in the English language and an additional European language desirable
  • Excellent digital/IT skills with a strong attention to detail
