The European DIGITAL SME Alliance is the largest network of tech SMEs in Europe, representing more than 45,000 companies. With a mission to support European SMEs in driving the digitalisation of Europe and create a truly technologically sovereign Europe, we are looking for a Business Development Officer to support and further strengthen the DIGITAL SME community.

As our Business Development Officer, you are passionate about creating meaningful relationships, building strong communities, and understanding member needs. You will play a key role in developing engagement strategies, enhancing member experience, and ensuring active participation across our network.

We are not looking for a specific academic or professional background—but rather for motivation, communication and interpersonal skills, and a proactive attitude.

Key tasks:

Alongside the Senior Business Development Manager, you will:

  • Strengthen and expand relationships with existing and prospective members;
  • Improve and support the implementation of a comprehensive member engagement strategy to boost satisfaction and retention;
  • Identify and prioritise member needs and expectations to ensure DIGITAL SME’s activities and services align with them;
  • Develop and adapt services and offerings based on member feedback and evolving interests;
  • Collaborate with the communications, policy, and project management teams to align messaging and value propositions.

Other tasks:

  • Coordinate internal processes related to member communication and onboarding;
  • Support the organisation of events and other initiatives, including the DIGITAL SME Summit;
  • Help to achieve the financial goals of the organisation.

Required skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, marketing, political science, or a related field;
  • Initial experience (e.g., internship) in the area of marketing, communications, project management, business development or related area;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; fluency in French is a strong plus;
  • Interest in the tech sector and SME ecosystem (prior knowledge is a plus, not a requirement);
  • A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently;
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills;
  • A strong work ethic;
  • Diplomacy and clarity in interpersonal communication;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Bonus skills:

  • Experience in community building, stakeholder engagement, or event coordination is a strong plus;
  • Fluency in other European languages.

Work Conditions

As our Business Development Officer you will be part of a dynamic international team. The office is located at the heart of the EU district in Brussels, easily accessible by public transport. Since the pandemic, we have established a hybrid work model, where the team works partly from the office, partly remotely. Flexible working hours are also part of the deal – the Alliance’s organisational culture is result- rather than control-driven.

We offer a full-time, permanent contract. The initial compensation package includes a net (after taxes) salary between €2000 and €2200/month (depending on relevant experience), transport expenses, group and hospitalisation insurance and additional days off, collective performance-based bonuses.

Short missions abroad within the EU are a key part of the role.

The European DIGITAL SME Alliance is committed to workplace diversity and inclusion of people from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. We strongly encourage qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply!
