Why this role matters
Scientific diplomacy and biotechnology policy are moving targets—shaped by fast-evolving developments, shifting geopolitics, and regulatory debates. CFG’s work translates cutting-edge science into actionable insights for European policymakers and international partners. We are seeking an experienced contractor to keep that momentum alive: steering outreach, shepherding milestones, and making sure our work lands with the people who can use it. As the Emerging Technologies Project & Stakeholder Engagement Lead, you will have deliverables across two part-time projects, with the first having funding confirmed and the second awaiting confirmation. The thematic focus of the role is on biotechnologies which are only just beginning to surface, and so extensive technical knowledge is not necessary. However, a working understanding of how science and research policy is made in the EU and UK would be beneficial.
What you’ll deliver
Module 1 – Emerging Technologies Project & Stakeholder Engagement Lead - Scientific diplomacy project (guaranteed funding) 3 days/week
- Implement an outreach strategy that gets senior scientists, politicians and policy leaders thinking about a little-understood area of science.
- Lead the organisation of high-impact meetings, workshops and private events; capture feedback and analyse the impact of this engagement.
- Establish a project-management approach to track milestones, flag risks early, and shape the final narrative report that sums up progress and impact.
Module 2 – Emerging Technologies Project & Stakeholder Engagement Lead - Policy outreach & advocacy on emerging biotechnologies (awaiting confirmation) 2 days/week
- Activate a policy-facing outreach strategy, broadening our network MEPs and Commission officials to include other relevant policymakers and stakeholders.
- Develop and execute targeted events and briefings that translate technical detail into compelling policy options and debates.
- Feed in learnings and feedback from engagements to support the development of CFG policy positions.
- Maintain clear documentation and reporting so funders, partners and internal teams know exactly where things stand.
What you will need to succeed in this role-Relationship-building strengths – a track record of engaging high-level stakeholders and motivating busy people around shared goals.-Project-driving instinct – ability to drive projects to time, nudging colleagues and collaborators when needed.--Event delivery – from concept to follow-up, you feel comfortable executing round-tables, workshops and conferences with support.-Strategic communicator – able to tailor messages for scientists, policymakers, investors and other audiences alike.Policy fluency (desirable) – familiarity with EU research, science or procurement policy, AI policy, or a working knowledge of the biotech landscape.-Values alignment – an enthusiasm for using tech innovations responsibly.
