We’re looking for a proactive Communications Manager to support the development of internal and external communications, facilitate the horizontal flow of information within the ICAR Community, and translate key scientific information for external stakeholders, international organisations, and national authorities. In this transversal role, you’ll be at the heart of a small, collaborative, and friendly team, thinking strategically, producing materials and delivering across a range of in-person and digital channels (annual meetings, workshops, social media, website, and webinars).

What you will do: 

  • Develop and implement internal and external ICAR’s communication and branding strategy 
  • Ensure dynamic internal communication around ICAR Expert Group work
  • Plan appropriate and timely activities around ICAR milestones 
  • Draft core messages and promotional materials, including articles, event scripts, infographics, press releases, etc, and develop targeted and tailored outreach campaigns for key stakeholders and organisations in the food supply chain
  • Build and maintain an extensive, active network of institutions, researchers, breeding organisations, farmers, and external stakeholders to promote the use of ICAR standards and guidelines.
  • Update and animate the ICAR website and social media channels
  • Organise events including the annual meeting, webinars, workshops, and visits
  • Track the impact of communication activities, providing regular updates and recommendations for improvement

Who you are:

  • A degree in communications, journalism or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a communication role
  • Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are an asset 
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear and compelling material
  • Experienced in stakeholder relationship building, media relations, and external networking
  • Familiar with website management and content creation tools such as Canva or Adobe Suite
  • Proactive, detail-oriented and reliable
  • Comfortable operating in both strategic and operational modes
  •  A collaborative team player with a curious, pioneering spirit, at ease in an agile, international, and multicultural environment

What we offer

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence globally recognised livestock data standards while working at the interface of science and practice. This is a full-time position for an indefinite period under Belgian, Dutch, or Italian law. Depending on the work residency country, other options could be explored. The conditions will be considered based on the candidate’s experience and country of residence. Part-time work (80%) can be discussed. Homeworking is allowed, with some travel planned for the annual meeting and team engagement.
