Programme Support Trainee (Policy, Communications & Events)

Communication

Brussels, Belgium
Apply by: September 25, 2026
World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition

The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) is a global umbrella organisation bringing together 17 bladder cancer patient organisations across 14 countries. Based in Brussels, we work with patients, clinicians, policymakers and international stakeholders to improve information, support, care and advocacy for people affected by bladder cancer worldwide.

We are looking for a Programme Support Trainee to join our team for a remunerated, six-month traineeship with real responsibility across our main work programmes.

About the role

This is a hands-on, mixed-skill role offering exposure across the Coalition’s work, with an approximate split of 35% communications, 25% policy and advocacy, 20% event management, 10% member relations and 10% operations. These estimates shift month to month.

By the end of six months, we would expect you to have run your own workstream within one of our key initiatives, helped coordinate a flagship international event, and gone deeper in one area of your choosing. This is not a first internship, and we will pitch the work accordingly.

What you will do

  • Research and monitor policy files relevant to bladder cancer patients, and turn them into briefings the team acts on. Prepare for and attend EU policy meetings, European Parliament events and coalition calls, and contribute to consultation responses, position statements and joint letters (credited by name).
  • Create content for our social media channels, newsletters and website, and help deliver the Bladder Cancer Awareness Month campaign each May.
  • Plan and run online and in-person events, including the World Bladder Cancer Patient Forum, and support their operational and technical delivery.
  • Act as a first point of contact for member organisations, onboard new members and support capacity-building activities.
  • Support internal coordination, documents, databases and project timelines, working directly with the Executive Director on day-to-day priorities.

Who we are looking for

  • Master’s-level education, or equivalent experience, with some internship experience already behind you
  • Strong written and spoken English, including the ability to draft for a policy audience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Interest in health, public health and non-communicable diseases, including cancer
  • Well organised, practical and able to prioritise a varied workload
  • Eligibility to work in Belgium without requiring a visa

Desirable: experience running an organisational social media channel, newsletter or website; experience helping to deliver a multi-day or multi-country event; familiarity with EU health policy; and fluency in another UN working language (Arabic, French, Portuguese, Spanish or Chinese in particular).

What we offer

  • Remunerated six-month Convention d’immersion professionnelle (CIP) contract
  • Gross allowance of €1,250 per month
  • Luncheon vouchers (€10 per working day)
  • Public transport pass fully covered
  • €150 personal training and development budget
  • Travel and accommodation covered when representing WBCPC at international events
  • A named line manager and monthly one-to-ones on your development

Every trainee who has finished with us has gone on to a role in this field. Where funding and workload allow, we look first to our trainees when a position opens.
