About the team you are joining
The IATA Corporate Communications Team is a high-performing diverse group of professionals who are based in strategic locations that together delivers communications support for IATA’s business priorities. The department highly values teamwork. The team works in a well-coordinated and collaborative way (internally and across the IATA organization) to deliver activities encompassing traditional media, digital platforms, social media, internal communications and branding.
The Assistant Director EU Policy Communications will be based in Brussels and report to the Head, Corporate Communications (based in Geneva). Together they will develop and deliver a policy-focused EU Communications strategy supporting the priorities of IATA’s Senior VP External Affairs. The incumbent will be a critical part of IATA’s Brussels advocacy team and IATA’s global corporate communications team while working closely with subject matter experts and local management in European markets.
What your day would be like
On a daily basis, you will provide communications counsel to IATA’s Senior VP for External Affairs and work with the Global Corporate Communications team to action an agreed EU Communications strategy. This support will include:
– Acting in the capacity of an official spokesperson of IATA and representing IATA to media, including pitching stories and responding to questions concerning EU policy.
– Creating content (social media, blog posts, press releases, multi-media collateral etc.) to support advocacy campaigns on European policy issues impacting aviation.
– Preparing presentations and social media material for the Senior VP External Affairs and Regional VP Europe as required.
– Maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date contacts with media (traditional and new) across Europe (broadly defined to also include Centra Asia), with a particular emphasis on Brussels. This includes aviation media as well as generalized and specialized media focusing on areas such as consumer affairs and sustainability.
– Inviting and hosting media at key IATA events (Annual General Meeting, Global Media Day, Wings of Change Europe, and other events as may come onto the European calendar).
– Editing a weekly e-newsletter to keep IATA’s membership updated on developments in Brussels.
– From time to time, you may be required to perform other duties as needs arise and to travel in support of IATA activities outside of Brussels.
We would love to hear from you if you:
– Have at least 10 years of experience working in public policy communications (ideally in EU/multi-lateral institutions, media, or private sector organizations), and have a relevant professional network.
– Have excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral. Knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.
– Are competent in social media, media relations, spokesperson duties, and speech/presentation writing.
– Are a self-starter who is well-organized, comfortable in teamwork but capable of individual contribution, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to work with tight deadlines.
– Have a passion for aviation, a global mindset and a good sense of humor.
