Stora Enso is a global organisation with operations, sales, and supply chains all over the world. Our purpose – “Do good for people and the planet. Replace non-renewable materials with renewable products” – drives everything we do. We believe that everything made from fossil-based materials today can be made from a tree tomorrow, and we are committed to accelerating the transition to a circular bioeconomy.
Contribute to a renewable materials future
We are now looking for a Senior Corporate Affairs Manager to work as an active and constructive player in policy discussions that shape our operating environment. You will be located in Brussels and report to the Senior Vice President of Corporate & Regulatory Affairs.
Stora Enso’s Corporate and Regulatory Affairs function exists to enable the company’s long-term growth, competitiveness, and value creation by anticipating and shaping political and regulatory developments and translating external policy dynamics into clear strategic choices for the business. Through credible, concrete, and constructive engagement with policymakers, regulators, industry associations, and other key stakeholders, the function protects and strengthens Stora Enso’s licence to operate, supports the company’s strategic transformation towards renewable and circular solutions, and ensures that leadership and business units are well-informed, well-prepared, and able to act early and decisively in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
With a presence in more than 50 countries, Stora Enso aims to be a constructive and trusted partner to decision-makers globally, at EU level and within national governments, contributing to a stable policy framework that enables the green transition and a more sustainable future.
Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role, you have a relevant university degree in, for instance, political science, law, or communications, combined with a minimum of five years’ experience in a public affairs role. You have worked with the EU institutions and the EU political system and processes, and feel comfortable navigating this environment.
The policy areas you engage with will vary, but we currently expect this role to focus on energy, climate, and biodiversity issues. Experience of working on energy-related issues is therefore desirable, though not essential.
Your working language will be English, in which you should have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. Additional language skills are desirable, though not essential. In addition to your experience, we place a high emphasis on your personal qualities. Since you will be following the progress and development of your portfolios, you must be able to learn complex topics quickly and translate them into accessible content, both verbally and in writing.
You are able to connect and communicate with people in different roles and with diverse backgrounds. You are willing to adapt to change, flexible in your ways of working, and available and able to travel within Europe.
Key responsibilities
Within your assigned policy areas, you will be responsible for the following tasks, in close coordination with the Senior Vice President of Corporate & Regulatory Affairs:
Advocacy strategy and planning
Develop, maintain, and execute EU-level corporate affairs and advocacy strategies and engagement plans aligned with Stora Enso’s business priorities, sustainability ambitions, and long-term licence to operate.
Strategic positioning and messaging
Help define Stora Enso’s strategic policy positioning and key narratives, ensuring consistent, credible, and solution-oriented messages are deployed across EU advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
Stakeholder and coalition strategy
Set and drive Stora Enso’s approach to EU stakeholder engagement, trade associations, and coalitions, deciding where and how to engage to maximise influence while managing alignment and reputational risk.
Political intelligence and foresight
Provide strategic political insight and forward-looking assessments of EU policy and stakeholder dynamics, identifying emerging risks, opportunities, and timely engagement opportunities relevant to the business.
External engagement and influence delivery
Plan and deliver targeted EU-level engagement activities, including senior leadership involvement, to advance Stora Enso’s strategic advocacy objectives and visibility with key decision-makers.
Internal alignment and governance
Ensure clear internal alignment on EU advocacy priorities and positions, acting as a strategic interface between Corporate Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and other internal stakeholders.
Reputation, values, and licence to operate
Integrate Stora Enso’s values, sustainability commitments, and bio-based solutions into EU advocacy strategies, contributing to a strong reputation and a stable, predictable operating environment.
What we offer
By joining us, you will contribute to a more sustainable world, as we play a leading role in accelerating the transition to a circular bioeconomy. Our values are to “Lead and Do what’s right”, and we expect high performance, speed, and agility in every part of our organisation. Safety and wellbeing are our top priorities, every day. We inspire you to lead your own growth and to set your ambition high.
