Do you want to work with Finland’s most important export industry and work with the European Union? Technology Industries of Finland (TIF) supports Finnish technology companies by strengthening their operating environment and we are now looking for a Senior Advisor for EU Affairs for our Brussels Office to further reinforce our activities. The position is a full-time, 24-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal.
In this role, you will monitor policy developments and legislative files in Brussels. As a Senior Advisor, you will analyse and influence key political strategies and regulatory proposals of the EU that matter to the technology industries. Your core responsibility area will be digitalisation and innovation policy. The role also includes contributing to and influencing Finland’s EU policy positions.
You will coordinate our advocacy work in Brussels and support our experts in their EU advocacy. You will also organise meetings and other events with European Commission officials, Members of the European Parliament, the Permanent Representation of Finland, and other key stakeholders, in addition to representing Technology Industries of Finland in relevant hearings and other events in Brussels. You will work closely with our European umbrella organisations (DIGITALEUROPE, Orgalim, and Ceemet) to help establish their positions. In addition, you will coordinate our cooperation with the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) in EU advocacy.
You will work in close collaboration with other experts in our Brussels office, our colleagues in the Helsinki office, and our member companies. The role requires some travel to Finland. You will report to the Director of Public Affairs, based in Helsinki. The Public Affairs team ensures that our advocacy work in Finland and the EU is proactive, planned, and systematic. Public Affairs is part of the Communications, Public Affairs, and Member Services Unit.
We expect you to have:
- Previous work experience in EU advocacy (minimum five years) and a relevant higher education degree.
- A strong understanding of the European Union, its decision-making processes, institutions and key actors, and how to influence them.
- Prior experience and proven capability in influencing Finland’s EU policy positions.
- The ability to quickly familiarise yourself with policy positions in the fields of digitalisation, innovation, and security, as well as with EU initiatives that are most relevant for the technology industries.
- We particularly value expertise in modern advocacy communications and an understanding of lobbying. Excellent networking skills and extensive networks within EU institutions – especially the European Commission and political groups in the European Parliament – are an asset.
- Coordination and project management skills related to advocacy work. A proactive, analytical, and systematic working style and strong problem-solving skills are an asset.
- A team-player mindset and willingness to support colleagues with your expertise.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills. Finnish and French are assets.
