European Aluminium is the industry association representing the full aluminium value chain. It represents over 100 members, including primary aluminium producers, downstream manufacturers of extruded, rolled and cast aluminium, producers of recycled aluminium and national aluminium associations, with more than 600 plants in 30 European countries (EU27 + UK + EFTA).
Aluminium is an indispensable part of modern society being essential for many of the clean technologies needed to deliver the EU green transition, from solar renewable power to alternative fuel cells and hydrogen production to high-voltage cables and batteries. Because of the EU green transition alone, its demand is set to rise massively in the years to come, primarily due to the growth in electric vehicles, solar and wind power, and electricity networks. Job Description
We are looking for a full-time LCA analyst to join our Strategy & Analysis team. Since more than 20 years, European Aluminium is collecting data from their members to compile LCI inventories for the main processes of the aluminium value chain and it is working towards the standardization and harmonization of the LCA methodology within the sector and beyond. Overall, the resource will support the development, maintenance, and improvement of Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) datasets, contribute to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies and reports, engage with member companies to ensure data quality and consistency, and collaborate with external stakeholders to align methodologies and promote best practices in environmental footprinting.
Main tasks and duties
In particular, the candidate is expected to perform the following activities:
- Confidential data collection and analysis to elaborate average LCI inventories for the main processes in the aluminium value chain.
- Maintain, update and modify the LCA models in the software for the main processes in the aluminium value chain.
- Confidential data collection and analysis related to sustainability beyond the specific LCI/LCA purpose (e.g., environmental impacts, raw materials consumption, workplace safety, social dimension etc) as needed to support the positioning of European Aluminium on the various policy files.
- Development of projects related to the implementation of Life Cycle Assessment and Environmental footprint methodologies for aluminium semi-finished products and final products in which aluminium is used.
- Development and further implementation in external databases of datasets for aluminium semi- finished products and processes.
- Ad-hoc support to members on their questions and requests on LCI data collection, LCA modelling, interpretation of the results.
Knowledge, experience, interests and skills
- Relevant technical or scientific university degree.
- At least one year of work experience in a related area of work.
- Strong analytical skills. Experience in collecting and analysing data.
- Knowledge of at least one Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) software (preferably Gabi) is a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to work in team and willingness to help and learn.
- Ability to work autonomously, ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
- Interest in sustainability matters and in EU affairs.
