Position Overview
FESI is looking for a motivated, dynamic, and proactive Sustainability Policy Officer to join its Brussels-based team.
The successful candidate will support FESI’s work on key EU sustainability and circular economy legislation affecting the European sporting goods industry, including:
- Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and related secondary legislation
- Waste Framework Directive
- Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
- Environmental Omnibus and Circular Economy Act
- Other relevant EU sustainability and circular economy initiatives
The role combines policy analysis, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and member coordination.
Contract Details

Profile
The ideal candidate should have:
- 3-6 years of relevant professional experience in EU public affairs, policy, consultancy, industry associations, EU institutions, or related fields
- Previous experience in the textile, footwear, and/or sporting goods sector is considered an asset
- A university degree in Political Science, European Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related field
- A good understanding of EU decision-making processes and advocacy strategies in a politically sensitive environment
- Knowledge of EU sustainability and circular economy policies
- Excellent analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear and concise messages
- Outstanding written and spoken English; French, German and/or another EU language is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- A collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with a genuine commitment to fostering a positive, respectful, and supportive workplace culture
- The ability to coordinate complex policy discussions, build consensus, and develop constructive compromises
- A proactive, solution-oriented, and autonomous mindset
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- The ability to work effectively in a small and international team environment
Key Responsibilities
Policy Monitoring and Analysis
- Monitor key EU sustainability and circular economy legislation relevant to the sporting goods industry
- Report to members on EU political and policy developments
- Draft policy briefings, position papers, consultation responses, and analytical notes reflecting industry-wide views
- Support advocacy activities and engage with EU policymakers and institutions
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Support FESI’s advocacy work vis-à-vis the European Commission, European Parliament, Member States, and external stakeholders
- Contribute to FESI’s visibility in EU sustainability discussions by attending and organising meetings, webinars, and conferences
- Collaborate with partner organisations and relevant stakeholders
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies within the scope of the Sustainability Committee and Circular Economy Taskforce
Member Coordination and Committee Management
- Prepare, organise, and follow up on Sustainability Committee meetings and webinars
- Coordinate member input and support consensus-building on industry positions
- Act as a reliable point of contact for members on sustainability-related matters
