EU Public Affairs Manager
Focus: EU Energy, Environment & Industrial Policy
Location: Brussels
A Brussels-based European trade association is seeking an experienced EU Public Affairs Manager to strengthen its policy and advocacy work on complex EU regulatory files in the fields of energy, environment and related regulatory frameworks, including chemicals.
The role requires strong experience in EU energy and environmental policy, combined with the ability to engage confidently on technically complex dossiers involving multiple stakeholders.
Reporting directly to senior management, you will play a key role in shaping advocacy positions, engaging with EU institutions and member companies, and contributing to the organisation’s strategic positioning on priority EU policy files.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Advocacy Contribute to and help drive advocacy strategies on priority EU regulatory files across energy, environmental and industrial policy, including chemicals-related legislation.
- Institutional Engagement Manage engagement with relevant European Commission services, European Parliament committees and Council working groups.
- Policy Content & Analysis Draft and coordinate position papers, policy briefs, consultation responses and amendment proposals.
- Technical Coordination Work closely with technical, scientific and legal experts within the membership to develop evidence-based advocacy positions.
- Committee & Membership Engagement Support and coordinate the work of expert committees and maintain regular interaction with company representatives.
- Communications Support Collaborate with communications colleagues on targeted messaging and outreach to policymakers.
- Monitoring & Representation Monitor EU policy developments (energy transition, environmental regulation, chemicals) and represent the organisation in external meetings and coalitions.
Your Profile
- Experience 7–10 years of professional experience in EU public affairs in Brussels, with exposure to complex regulatory and legislative processes.
- Policy Expertise Strong understanding of EU energy and environmental policy, with awareness of links to chemicals regulation and sustainability objectives.
- Technical Aptitude Comfortable working with technical and scientific material; experience with evidence-based policy processes is an asset.
- Skills Excellent English; strong analytical, drafting and stakeholder-management skills. Attributes Autonomous, solutions-oriented and diplomatic; comfortable working on sensitive files in a small team environment.
- Eligibility EU citizenship or valid work authorisation for Belgium.
