
Senior PHP/WordPress developer
BACKGROUND
EURACTIV is an independent pan-European media network specializing in EU policies. Our primary goal is to ignite and facilitate policy debates among stakeholders, including government, business, and civil society. We provide comprehensive coverage of policy processes leading up to decisions, presenting the issues in a neutral manner without taking sides.
The EURACTIV Network offers localized EU policy news in 13 languages. Through collaboration with our media partners, we reach over 1.7 million users across Europe and beyond every month. With 2.5 million page views and over 1 million unique readers per month, EURACTIV is a leading online media platform specializing in EU policy. We strive to engage 80% of our readers in their own language.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior PHP/WordPress developer, you will be responsible for setting up the backend and/or frontend of new projects and overseeing the entire project lifecycle. Additionally, you will handle the maintenance of these projects, including performing updates, designing new pages, and adding new blocks as required to align with EURACTIV's vision of bridging the European capitals. This role reports directly to the CEO and collaborates with teams in Brussels, Paris, and Berlin. You can expect a high degree of creativity and variety in your work, as well as close cooperation with diverse teams and weekly strategic meetings with the CEO.
What you bring as a Senior PHP/WordPress developer:
- Design new applications and enhance existing ones
- Provide advice to business teams on ICT constraints and opportunities
- Track project progress and communicate status and ongoing tasks
- Proactively identify further needs and innovative solutions
- Document work performed and coordinate with teams
- Upgrade EURACTIV WordPress websites and mini-sites using Symfony
REQUIREMENTS
Must-have:
- Post-secondary education in ICT
- Experience with PHP and WordPress development
- Fluent proficiency in written and spoken English
- Proactive, open-minded, and a team player
- Ability to work independently without requiring micromanagement
- Eligibility to work in the EU
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with HTML, CSS, and Symfony
- Demonstrates flexibility and good judgement in prioritization
- Working knowledge of other EU official languages
