The International Crisis Group is an independent organisation working to prevent wars and shape policies that will build a more peaceful world.

Reporting to the Director of Government & Multilateral Relations, the Senior Development Officer will establish and maintain close relationships with current and prospective donors with a view to maintain and increase Crisis Groups donor base internationally.

Responsibilities include:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Government & Multilateral Relations, contribute to the development and execution of the annual strategic development plan and other organization-wide communications.
  • Cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of government and multilateral donors while identifying and qualifying new donors to meet fundraising goals.
  • Produce institutional fundraising strategies and develop quality concept notes, detailed tailored funding proposals, including liaising with the finance department to develop budget, for submission to government and multilateral donors;
  • Through wide consultation across the organization, write detailed reports, project updates, and produce other related materials needed to deepen prospect and donor engagement, secure grants, and steward relationships.
  • Negotiate new funding partnerships and/or consortia, liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to develop feasible projects for funding, establishing scope, allocation, outputs, navigating challenges, and cultivating relationships across a variety of levels.
  • Negotiate the terms and conditions of grant agreements and contracts with new and existing partners, including managing expectations, troubleshooting issues, and facilitating consensus with donors before signing.
  • Through collaboration with Crisis Group advocacy, Program, and Senior staff, devise innovative methods of donor engagement for government and multilateral donors, tailored to their evolving needs and priorities, and in line with the capabilities of Crisis Group staff.
  • Conduct policy monitoring and responsive advocacy to strengthen relationships and cultivate new ones with government and multilateral donors, including organizing advocacy visits where needed with Crisis Group Program staff and senior leadership as well as period travel outside Brussels.
  • Conduct research on prospective government and multilateral donors, proactively formulate entry points for funding, and contribute to developing a strategy for cultivation and solicitation.

Requirements include:

  • Ten years of fundraising experience in an NGO environment, preferably working with institutional donors;
  • Ability to produce high quality written content for proposals, calls for bids and other submissions and maintain accurate is essential;
  • Excellent, demonstrated English language writing skills;
  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently with tight deadlines;
  • Well organised, communicative and interpersonal working attitude, keen to take initiative and collaborate in a team environment;
  • Knowledge of French or other European languages is highly desirable; and
  • Experience in planning events or conferences would be an asset.
