The Scientific Project Manager (SPM) manages task forces and related scientific projects in the field of food safety, sustainability and/or nutrition. He/she supports experts in their scientific mission and to achieve the agreed project objectives. The SPM ensures that the project works meets the quality expectations. He/she reports to the Scientific Unit Coordinator (SUC), and he/she supports in establishing scientific relationships with key stakeholders. Furthermore, he/she organises the dissemination of scientific output at conferences, webinars etc. in collaboration with the Communications Manager (CM). The SPM also supports the Membership Responsible in membership recruitment efforts.

Reporting & supervisory relationships

  • Reports to the Scientific Unit Coordinator
  • Directly manages some of ILSI Europe’s task forces and related expert groups


  • Task force (TF) / expert group (EG) management in accordance with ILSI Europe’s rules, principles and policies
  1. Ensures that projects reach their objectives (qualitative and timely scientific output, adequate communication and dissemination)
  2. Manages projects in a professional and timely manner
  3. Generates relevant documents like minutes, agendas and information documents
  4. Initiates and follows the manuscript review process by journals and ensures publication of scientific output in open access
  5. Organises meetings, calls and dissemination events in accordance with the planned TF budget
  6. Plans, manages and executes the TF budget
  7. Ensures that members and experts are aware of important and relevant information (for instance change in the scientific programme of the TF/EG, experts’ involvement in projects, finances, SAC/BOD decisions etc.)
  8. Keep up to date with relevant scientific developments related to the task force work, including that of international organisations and reports back to relevant internal and external stakeholders
  9. Presenting the outcome and impact of the task force activities in meetings and conferences,
  10. Establishing contact with renowned scientists and coordinating their work.
  11. European projects funded by European Commission
  12. Contributes to the development of research proposals
  13. If granted, ensures the implementation of the projects task according to the agreed timing, budget and quality
  14. Participates in the project reporting

Scientific expertise

  • Min of MSc in life sciences (food safety, nutrition, toxicology, biology, agriculture, sustainability)
  • Experience in scientific and project management, preferably in an international organisation
  • General scientific overview of research,
  • Proven interest in interdisciplinary approaches

Experience required

  • Preferably 3 years of experience in food safety and/or nutrition field
  • Managed scientific projects with several stakeholders involved
  • Familiar with publishing scientific output in peer reviewed journals
  • Managed communication with key stakeholders
  • Budget management
  • Worked in an international environment
  • Preferably experience in developing systematic reviews
  • Preferably passed involvement in EU projects (Horizon Europe, H2020, FP7 …)
  • Working experience in industry and/or regulatory domain is an added value
