Science Coordinator 

Growing Media Europe AISBL is looking for a Science Coordinator to strengthen our team and support our growing association in gathering relevant scientific data while creating a network with scientists around the world involved in growing media and horticulture related research.

About us:                                  

Growing Media Europe AISBL is an international non-profit organization representing the producers of growing media and soil improvers at European level. The Association has 26 Members from 12 European Countries representing 80% of the European Growing Media market. Growing media are vital for producing healthy food, urban green, large-scale afforestation, and ornamental flowers in the most sustainable way. Our main objective is to promote optimum legislation for the manufacturing and use as well as the free trade of growing media within Europe. We work science-based and are constantly updating and enlarging our database.

Tasks & Responsibilities      

  • Initiate and manage all GME´s activities that are linked to research, data gathering and scientific projects
  • Creating a strong network with scientific institutions as well as individual scientists in the field of growing media and horticulture
  • Ability to create a strong link with funding bodies, enabling new opportunities for research
  • Actively engaging GME´s members as well as other stakeholders in science-related actions
  • Reporting to the Secretary General, the Board, and the members of GME on ongoing and planned activities
  • Drafting documents on research results
  • Presenting at scientific conferences and events related
  • Representing GME towards external stakeholders

Education and professional experience

  • Master’s degree in agronomy, plant biotech, bioengineering, or horticulture
  • Understand and analyse scientific publications and papers from the field (horticulture, forestry, peatland management, nutrition, biodiversity, consumer awareness etc.)
  • Previous company experience is a plus with some understanding of business operations and processes. Preferably within the sector.


  • Fluent in English, written and oral, another European language is an asset
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, but with a collaborative mindset
  • Strong ability to communicate with external and internal stakeholders
